let's try this again...who's in for custom coding?

ok, so i just spoke to mike from powerchip...he in fact does not have to fly out here to code our cars -- he can simply send us a laptop (and obd cable), which he'll remote in to to do the coding (of course, an internet connection is required while the computer is plugged into the car)...depending on the number of features, each car might take about 15 - 20 minutes...

cars he can code;

what he can code;
see quote below...that quote came from his post at http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=472123

pricing;
about $50 per feature, although he's willing to work with us...and of course, the more customers the more willing he'll be to offer discounts...

other notes;
--he codes with a bmw factory tool/software that he purchased straight from bmw ag in germany...no third party software is used...
--he saves/backs up each customer's default/pre-coded files as well as the coded files...in the event you want to wipe out your coding or if your coding gets wiped out and you want to restore it, he can do that at a significantly discounted rate...
--for anyone interested, he can perform engine tuning as well...more info on this is available through the powerchip site...

so who's with me?...please only claim "in" if you are *truly* in (i.e., prepared to send mike a deposit and do this within the next couple weeks)

In other modules, I can recode many different things - here is a short list:
1) Roll windows and mirrors and sunroof up with key (holding lock)
2) Automatically close sunroof when rain is detected
3)
4) Add the v= (digital speed) to non-M cars
5) Turn off the iDrive "accept" message every time you start the car
6) Set the iDrive to default to a specific function (whether it be Entertainment, Communication, or Navi)
7) Turn off the annoying "key in ignition" gong
8) Change the alarm beeps and notifications
9) Set whether the key and remote or only the remote disarms the alarm (I'm sure you all remember the screwdriver trick from the E46's)
10) Set whether the brake has to be held or not to start the car (particularly useful for automatic cars, can disable the clutch check for manual)
11) Disable the hardtop speed limitation on convertables
12) Turn off the amber lights when the headlights are on
- Can also control whether that little amber bumb is on or off in the corner, independently.
13) Make the welcome lights trigger any lights you want on unlock (rear fog, front fog, high beam, low beam, angel eyes, corner lights, brake lights, etc), also including how fast them dim on. (see my video above for example)
14) Turn off or on light bulb testing (can turn on or off hot monitoring and cold monitoring on all lights.) This should allow people to retrofit LCI without any warning lights, or run aftermarket fogs, etc...
15) Automatically unlock doors when key is removed
16) For 2009 cars, add an option to iDrive which lets you select day/night mode

There are a number of other options available, but I thought I'd share the most important ones. Very easy to do with the right equipment and technical know-how.

Count me in.

Want the annoying iDrive "accept" message off my screen!!!

Just curious as to warranty issues down the line.

I'm in, have about 5 features in mind. Can the 09 unit be programmed to watch video in motion through the DVD player?

"Accept" message on my car goes away on its own after about 5 seconds. I don't even notice it anymore. I can live with that. 2008 M3

If he can do a 2011 M3 convertible I am in. I would be also able to host this event.

Hopefully Mike can match or be somewhat comparable to Shane's prices. Will be sending an email today, please let us know the final cost.

does anyone actually know shane's prices, which cars he can code, and what features he can code?...does he have any posts on here that i could reference?

might be a little awkward for me to just randomly email the guy out of the blue with no idea what he does/doesn't do...

Well, it appears that he's been banned or his threads were deleted BUT, it was $60 flat rate for whatever features he had. It was multiple cars (3+) so I'm assuming that's why he offered that deal. My last conversation with him, he was able to code virtually everything Mike can do, but limited cars... nothing 2010+.

He was working on it so maybe by now, he can do all cars. Once you compile the list of people that are interested, shoot it by Shane and see what he can do.

I'm in, just hoping he can come down on that 50 dollar price for each option. or maybe do a special where if we pay $150-$200 we can get as many as we want done. 50 dollars a option is just insane imo.

I agree, I'd like to do this but I don't want to pay per item!

well maybe if we all take more than 3 items we can have a flat rate?
so we pay say $150 and have like 10 items?
or say $100 for first item and $10 for each additional?
something like that

i'd love at least 4 or 5 more but can't spend $250 on them
i'd love folding mirrors with lock
fast adaptive lights (i heard you can control the speed at which they swivel)
unlock when key is removed

sorry guys, but it looks like i'm going to be passing on custom coding for my car...i've decided to try and get a 2012 e90 at some point right at the end of the production run, which could be as soon as the end of this year...as such, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me to put any money in to my current car...

anyone that wants to pick up where i left off on this, pm and i'll be happy to pass on the info i have to date...

I never did get to pm'ing him, I figured he saw what people were saying in this post and would hopefully price his products accordingly.
