Question for Speed Cloth owners

had speed been available with premium package, i would have gotten it without question. speed cloth is awesome looking, durable, and unique. i'd go for it if you're not sold on the prem. pack.

Do you regret not getting leather?

I have speed cloth, and regret getting it. It shows dirt/dust well and is one of the main reasons I've banned any type of eating in the car.

I'm about to order an M3 with either the cloth interior or black leather. I'm leaning toward cloth and here is why:

1. I like how the stripes in the middle of the cloth broke-up the plain look of all black.

It does look sharp

2. I live in Georgia where its really hot in the summer, so I thought the cloth would be more comfortable than black leather.

I live in Arizona, I know hot. Cloth cools faster than leather, but not that much faster. We also have an X5, with black leather, and I've compared them.

I have not seen a cloth interior in person (only photos off this site), but I have seen the black leather and was not impressed with the leather seats.

I had the speed cloth and leather side by side at the dealership. I thought the black leather, as opposed to cloth, looked better, but that's just my opinion.

I can take a few pictures if you'd like. Let me know

You should do that anyway (ban eating in the car), cars that smell like old food are gross. Leave that for mom's minivan.

I'm not eating a BK delux in the M3 - I mean I've banned even protein bars on the way to the gym, anything that may add any grit to the interior is picked up by the seats.

In AZ dust is an issue, especially during the summer. If I leave the windows down while it's windy, I'm vacuuming the seats... no fun.

You'd have to wipe down the seats if they were leather. Leather shows just as much dirt/dust as the cloth.

There is a fair amount of dust where I work (the valley) too, it does suck. I get dust on the door panel armrests, especially down in the wells.

The best way to clean the dust is w/ a good vacuum with a turbo head attachment like a Dyson Animal

Having both leather and cloth, both BMWs, both black, I have to disagree with you. The dirt doesn't get rubbed into the leather like to does on the cloth

You're entitled to disagree. I've had black leather and black cloth/leather in prior ///M cars, and neither was more difficult to clean than the other. The full leather seating surface requires a tad bit more maintenance though. Furthermore, the cloth/leather didn't cause extreme perspiration like the full leather seat does (..and didn't hold odor), thus, making it a more comfortable seat.

Thought I would let everyone know I did choose Speed Cloth! Thanks for the responses and I looked forward to being somewhat different than most M3s. I'll post some pictures once I get her in April.

I've debated this question myself. I'd get the cloth seats for many of the reasons mentioned here. However, I'm surprised by these pictures; I thought the color would be darker. Or does that depend on the color of the exterior?

I thought about cloth, and the pictures of the cloth interiors do look attractive/sporty. However, one potential advantage of cloth would be to avoid the significant wear on the leather of the driver's side bolsters that appears to be almost universal in these cars, and even the sport cloth seats has leather in this area, so I assume the would still be subject to wear. My current e46 M3 has significant wear in the driver's side bolster in spite of my best efforts. There have been a number of threads about rapid wear of the Novillo leather bolsters in the e9x M3's which has me concerned about the longevity of the leather in my soon to arrive e92 coupe (bamboo beige).

Nothing is going to last forever. I'm not abusing my car, but I'm not saving it for the next owner either. Premature wear is one thing, eventual wear is to be expected. Drive the cars, worry less.

You are right, seat wear is not really an advantage of getting the cloth seat option. There is simply no way to avoid worn bolsters.

I too am on the fence on this one. I really don't care for the premium pkg, but im afraid ill regret not getting leather.

Anyways this leaves grip, temperature, and price as the advantages for cloth over leather.

So you got a sweaty ass & cloth doesn't hold the odor? Won't cloth absord your odor?

I'm worried about cloth staining as well. My build has IB/BB but I'm thinking of switching to IB/SpeedCloth to put the $ toward the upgraded stereo and hopefully get some benefits out of cloth as mentioned here. Leather seems to clean so easy to me. SC does look cool though, just not a fan of it on the doors.
