According to my parts department they know nothing and nothing is in the system. Gotta love dealers.

At long last, the iPhone 4 "Music" cradle is released. Works exactly like my last 3GS cradle. Few cosmetic changes here and there. Not sure why they stamped "Music" on the front of the cradle. Looks a bit goofy if you ask me. Ah well.

Snaps taken in my x5, but the cradle will work in any 6NR car. Remember this is Music only cradle. The media version is still to ship, and will include support for Apps, Video out, Album art, and iPod out.

Now I've heard some unconfirmed reports that all the iPhone 4 cradles have being recalled due to the fact that the iPhone 4 overheats in the cradle ... I'll have to check that out, and report back.

My dad tried to buy one for me in Germany, but the dealer told him all cradles were recalled due to issues.

That "music" label is tacky! To bad it looks like they are faulty...

and something I really don't understand, why there needs to be 3 models. Why can't there be one cradle? and the options it supports be determined by car?

This will work in any 6NF car. Until it melts I gather. Great.

Interesting, I placed my iPhone 4 into the basic cradle the other day and by the end of the journey it was extremely hot. It's never got so much as warm before, so this is an interesting development.

I thought an earlier post from a retrofitter mentioned that the new adaptors would have a small fan in it due to the overheating.

Unconfirmed. So far I would say the phone gets warmish in the cradle, but certainly not hot.

The "Music" snap in adapter does not work in my M3 (oct/2010) as it has a com box and needs the "Media" version. Coming in a couple of weeks once the supplier has the parts again. The new X3 also comes with the com box, so "Media" is required as well.

With the "Music" it plays (you can see it on the monitor) but no sound.

Thats very odd. That means they have changed the pin outs on the base plate for combox cars.

Audio out on the iphone is just 3 pins on the doc connector. That routes through to the connector on the cradle to the base plate.

Guess looking at the wiring diagram from BMW would clarify things a bit.

You don't have anything connected to the AUX in port do you. That will cut out audio from the cradle/base plate.

I also got this confirmed independently. Dealer friend in Germany claims that Media adapter will be needed and music version will not work in combox cars. Also says that media adapter will not be released withon the next 4 months....

Music version = MULF 6NF
Media version = Combox 6NF

By this time it is more than obvious that BMW simply botched the whole Smartphone transition from MULF to Combox and the introduction of the 6NR.

It is quite a mess.

That's gonna annoy a lot of people that want to try the ipod out/plug-in and video out features in their nice new "expensive" cars ;-)

Yea, actually thinking about this some more, the interface between the iPhone and car is different between Combox and MULF, just for the regular 6FL.

The MULF required the use of the Y-Cable, and used the iPhone analog audio out.

The Combox simply used the regular apple iPhone cable to usb.

Therefore, it doesn't surprise me that the cradle and base plate would be different in combox cars. Also they need to support the analog video out from the iPhone too all in that interface.

Alright, so to get this straight for myself, I have a Oct2010 build with the Combox- currently I can use the iPod out cable on my iPhone 4 and it'll display album art etc however, I don't have the SmartPhone Integration Option. Going forward, if I wanted to use the new BMW ConnectedDrive features (BMW Apps etc) then I would need to get the Media Cradle and a few other parts so that the new said features would work. Correct?

Fixed.

The old iPhone 3GS Music adapter (modified a bit by grinding) does work with the com box.

Tried ordering but the p/n is blocked. Apparently delayed, still in Germany.

Just a quick update. There were rumors these things over heat the iPhone. I've being using mine for the last 3 weeks, and its being working fine. No overheating issues .. so not sure how true those rumors were.
