Need help, i'm on the road
Im drivin my 2011 e92 home from the dealer long distance. They had to put a fresh battery in it bc the last owner never drove it. Anyways i stopped to get gas, and some of my settings like equalizer and time format were reset. It didnt store it or something.. I do have both key fobs and i'm thinking that might have something to do with it, like maybe i used one then the other? How do u save your idrive settings? The a/c temp was different when i turned it back on as well. Sorry if this is hard to read, i'm on the road.

And believe it or not, I've noticed that when both my keys are in the car, it can generally tell the difference between a key that is on located on the driver's side and a key that is on the passenger side. But it would be easy enough to confuse it.

The key profile that's loaded is determined by which key is used to unlock the car, i.e. whichever key's Unlock button is pressed or whichever key is closest to the driver door when Comfort Access is triggered to unlock. If you have CA and both keys are in the same pocket, it's a crap shoot. If you for some reason use one key to unlock the car and the other key to start it, you'll still get the first key's profile.

And BTW if you use the manual key to lock it (as I do because I don't want to take the key fob out in the salt water) you have to unlock with the actual key then lock/unlock with the fob, otherwise when you drive off all your settings with be back at default....

Thanks guys, I got it figured out. I use the comfort access or whatever it's called, basically just keep the key in my pocket. I just make sure the other one is nowhere near the car.

1) I go to the dealer for service, drop the car and just before I leave, someone is coming running after me asking for the key and I give them this look "what key??" then I remember that this thing in my pocket is actually needed to operate the car. 2) when I'm using my other car (no comfort access) I get to the door and try to open it and it takes me a few seconds to remember that I need to do something to the key fob first! 3) when I forget to put the fob in my pocket I go to the garage, sit in the car (always unlocked) then I keep pushing the button wondering, why the heck isn't the car turning on!

Comfort Access is one of my favorite features, and I too thought it was a gimmick before. Once you live with it, it would be hard to own a car without it.
