Times do talk, and the official BMW time on the Nurburgring for the M Roadster is 8:15, the 335i is 8:26.

Who better to tell you which car is faster than the guys who test em on the best circuit in the world daily...not some fat magazine columnists driving the car for the first time.

If you can find any other times that show a stock 335i beating a stock M coupe around a track I'd love to see it. Top Gear was able to lap the M Roadster faster than the Cayman and the M3 CSL...but of course the 335i is faster than the Cayman and the M3 CSL on a track too right?

Oh and guess what...the M Coupe is faster than the M Roadster.

You guys are too funny

I've only been able to find 3 other direct comparison, other than Nordscheife, Top Gear, and VIR.

335i wins here

335i wins here

Z4m wins here

All this tells me that depending upon the track, stock-for-stock, either can win, the 2 cars are about equal overall, unless we race with 4 people in each car A little resistor magic, however, and the 335i blows the Z4M into the weeds.

I think it comes down to mastery of the tool. The 335 is easier to jump into, drive fast and control at the limit. The z4m has greater potential on the track but it takes time and greater ability to master.

The z4m reminds me of the s2k in some respects, more of a driver's car with quick responses but it can be harder to control and twitchier at the limit due to its shorter wheelbase. Regardless of what the article says, I would definitely rather have a z4m on the track.
