Guys, just a few quick question. Sorry to hijack the thread but I really need to know more before I go from 335 to m3.
Everyone is mentioning pulleys, i heard that changing pulleys will distort the weight balance n causing the engine to fall apart? But underdrive pulleys will work just fine, correct? How many different pulleys that can be swapped and +hp? Also, for xpipes, how is that better than the ordinary straight pipes? So what about akaprovic evo exhaust (i know it is pricey)? |

On older M3s like the E36, the crank pulley was integrated to the crank damper. Running an underdrive crank pulley meant eliminating the crank damper. This was not a good idea on a long crank like that of an inline six. So the better tuners left the crank pulley and damper alone and made individual underdrive pulleys for the accessories instead. Another way of accomplishing the same goal.
The newer M3 like the E90 does not have an integrated crank pulley and damper. The crank pulley comes off. This makes it easy to install an underdrive crank pulley. There is no risk to the engine balance or harmonics. |

Or: Test pipes: $400-$450 Tune: 1K Pulley: $300-$400.. Air Filter: $100 but for sound at most... Buy used, can do test pipes and pulley even cheaper. Don't necessarily need new wheels. Approx 380-400 whp pending initial strenth of engine / dyno used / outside conditions / etc. Installation of all items is DIY Agree with you that a supercharger is balls out fun, but there is still a decent price difference if that is OP's concern. |
