You can actually learn more about car control in the rain. Have fun.

Rain is far more entertaining and as skierman said, you will learn the limits of the car at lower thresholds. Take advantage of it!

Looking forward to the pics, and for the record I wasn't trying to scare you with the pic of the Gallardo buried in the tire wall. I had a lot of fun at one track day in the wet and you do learn a lot about car control. Just make sure to have the right tires

First of all I want to thank all of you again and tell you how impressed I am with you guys who track your car. I totally had a great time but was pretty intimidated by the guys, I ended up always being the one getting the blue flag and so gave the hand pass and just concentrated on getting the line. I was actually doing pretty good at the end of the day but then someone went off the track, we got the waving black and I forgot to pit my car and I got a black and had to sit out and that ****** me off but a lesson was learned, I was actually getting tired and out of it by then. The next day my neck hurt like crazy and I wasn't even going as fast as everyone else. Anyway thanks to klammer for giving me the lead to go to this event, btw he has an awesome car. I am hooked and can't wait to go back, I've got tons to learn but it really was cool and my car so deserves to run like this. I definitely need to get new wheels though. Again, I have lots of respect for you guys and your driving.

Glad to hear you had a great time! Yes - it is very addictive! Try not to get intimidated, that is why you waive people by. I think you will find once you have a few days under your belt that intimidation factor will disappear.
They extra weight of a helmet on your head can definitely cause a sore neck if your not used to it. Keep us posted to your next track days!

Good to hear you had a good time. It's hard to keep track of the flags, cars in front of you and the cars in back of you while you're driving as fast as you can.
You really need 2 days at a track to really get going. Like you found out, by the end of the first day, you're just getting comfortable with the track. The second day, you start to go fast.
Was there an instructor in the car with you? They should have seen the black flag for you.

No Instructor that time, I took advantage of them on two runs. I think I was over focused on the line and yes agree more time in the seat is key. The problem is I did see the flag but totally disregarded it.

I enjoyed meeting you too, thanks for all of your help too and I am on this two day event as we speak. It was funny I had to control myself on the way home so I didn't speed, seeing as I'm driving on a ticket lol

OK now can anyone give me some suggestions on a camera/mount for next time, it seems like a good idea so I can watch what I'm doing and correct it next time, or at least try to!

I use a gopro hd hero and a cruise cam mount. The camera shoots decent quality for its size, and the camera mount mounts easily to the passenger head rest. Both together will cost about $360. So it's a pretty inexpensive way to go and the results are pretty good.

I recently got a canon T2i which shoots hd video also, so I may try that next time.

Thanks, would you recommend an inside mount as opposed to outside?

If you place it inside, you can see your hands and possibly your gauges so that will add to the info collected in your video for post driving learning.

I agree that the cruise cam is the way to go, any decent video camera will work. I mount the cruise cam on the driver's seat so I can see what's going inside the car as well as outside.

I agree with skierman64, inside mount. You can see what you were doing at a particular moment, plus you can see from a perspective fairly close to the driver's perspective what line you chose.

If you're curious, I posted a couple of vids shot with the gopro hd hero and using a cruise cam short bar mount a while ago in this thread. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=407476

You can get an idea of what kind of results you'll get with that setup.

I'm a fan of mounting my GoPro on the rear driver's side window as you can record driver movement and lines on the track.

Here's a vid from MSR Houston a couple months ago:
