New M3s in stock at local dealer
Yesterday i was at Circle BMW and they had 2 new M3s. A Black 4door for 70k. and a blue 2 door for 67k. I saw them there last week and they were still for sale. i was expecting them to be sold before the dealer even had them in stock.

All for sale Today, right now.
Why cant your dealer sell the cars till the 25th? BMWNA does not say so.

That's the same thing my boy at Shelly said. They have two ///M3's, but can't sell them yet (...or rather, are choosing not to sell them yet). Actually, the way it was worded was, "we can sell them, but can't release them to the owners until later this month."

Most of the M3's I have seen sitting at dealerships are actually spoken for despite having sticker prices displayed. Most likely the dealer is simply showing the price to customers.

Considering there are loaded 2006 M5s with low miles (20K) selling in the mid $60Ks that originally stickered for $98K competing with the M3s in the same dealership. BMW intends to sell 100,000 M3s, even though they are significantly more expensive than the E46 M3 that sold less than that. Then factor in a tanking economy, heady competition from Merc, Audi, Infiniti and, arguably, Porsche (Cayman, Boxster, 911) and you have a reason for no wait list and already a backlog of M3s.
If you pay over sticker for this car you are nuts. I think you will be able to get it below MSRP very soon.

That's what I am banking on for 2009. On top of all your factors, another reason for the tepid M3 interest is the 335i. It's a GREAT car and relative to the M3, it seems like a bargain.

The m3 has a lot more competition, even from it's own company (335, 135). My CA said it won't be for another year before the price hits below MSRP. I call bull.

I am not buying that story at all...i heard from one of my buddies at the service center that its bullshit...unless you go and say i want this car they are gonna say its for show to make u feel like its a hot item and they are selling like crazy...go to your dealer and tell them you want it now...there is no way they will say no...its their way of making an excuse for it not selling due to its price tag at the moment

Agreed. They want to sell cars. The car biz is hurting, that's a FACT.

There are several factors that may be contributing the poor initial sales of the M3:
1. Lot of good sued M5s and M6s at the 70K price point. There are also some good used 997 C2S in the 70K range. 2. Lack of MDCT availability is also contributing to slower sales. 3. Poor reliability of recent new M models (M5 and M6). 4. AND the economy is tanking. There is no home equity to tap into for new cars. Job market is shaky as well. |

My dealer has an Blue/carbon roof coupe for $70k, and a black (most likely Jet Black) sedan for $70k. Both cars are available right now.
Interestingly enough, I found out that Euro delivery right now has NO discount. |

Same story Im hearing all over. I am getting calls from every dealer in town from the same people that laughed at msrp not too long ago. I was #9 at my dealer (Lauderdale pembroke pines) right before launch last weekend and I got a call saying the next allocation goes to me. I decided to go to another dealer and they actually had 3 cars (MR/bamboo, SSII/FR, IB/silver), and are taking orders at MSRP. (south motors). What I dont understand is what happened to all the 9 people in front of me, did they see the car and hate it? the e46 M3 was a huge car here in Miami, I cant tell you how many of them you see around.
