If you want to go Michelin, go for the new Pilot Alpin PA4. The PA2 is already old tech. It was replaced by the PA3 that has been in turn replaced by the PA4.

18's square setup, Blizzak WS70. Didnt have to much snow last winter in the northeast but they were great with the little bit that we did have.

If you get a lot of snow then as poster above me mentioned go for the WS70's in a square set-up. If you only see a bit of snow and have a lot of dry road days but still enough to warrant snow tires then go with the LM60's.

Check with TireRack.com
I've had very good luck with Dunlop Winter Sport 3D. Go with the a tire that is a bit narrower than stock as they'll go through the snow better. I'm using 235/40/18 all around. You'll give up some performance but you'll go in the snow! Also, it's better to get a wheel/tire package. That way you can swap summer to winter in less than an hour in your own garage. |

Dunlop Winter 3D, and Bridgestone LM60
I've used the Bridgestone WS60 on an e46 - much better in deep snow and freezing conditions than winter performance tires. However, the trade off is loss of dry/wet performance. Haven't tried the WS70 so I'm not sure if it's a better tire than the WS60? |

Last year I found a great deal and went a little unorthodox.
Bought Michelin PA2s in 245/40/18 front, PA3s in rear at 265/40/18 on oem rims. Bought the tires for $500 total, new from Town Fair Tire clearing out their stock. I live in Manhattan and the car is used on weekends only, but wanted the ability to go skiing. |

I REALLY like the Dunlop Wintersport 3D's. I have been using them for years. First on my E46 now on my E90 ///M3.
He is a picture of me testing them for the first time with my E90 during the "freak" snow we received last week in NJ: It was loads of fun, and they handled nearly as good on the snow as my summer's do on dry tarmac. Amazing grip.

I have run Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds the last two winters. No complaints. I run a slightly staggered setup on OEM 18s - 245/40/18 Front and 255/40/18 Rear. The sizes were recommended by tire rack.

I have the Pirelli Sottozeros on my M3. I like them so much I put them on my TT (winter beater) and my 135i.
