Front Bumper Scrape

So the front bumper (valance) of my vert was scraped a bit when the idiot tow driver had the flatbed at a wrong angle when trying to get my vehicle on the ramp. I have video, scrape pictures, and estimate for repair.

The tow company is what BMW Roadside Assistance sent since my car is CPO.

Allstate is the mediator and they sent the info to the tow company.

So, what would you do?

If they accept the claim and I take the money, does it go on my car's permanent record (e.g. on the carfax)?

It sounds insane, but the body shop that I took it to said it'll cost over $1,500 to repair to blend in the bottom scrapes after removing the lower car bra and then reapplying a 3M car bra.

Let's hope it does not show up on Carfax. If it does you will have a diminished value claim. Could be several thousand doll hairs.

Holy crap, pocket that 15xx.oo and keep it as it is. Or even a respray of the front bumper is only $4-500...

Hey Munich, will this one show up on Carfax?
If he could get $2,500 more in diminished value he's on his way to a used SC.

From what I know, only insurance claims usually go on carfax from what I understand.

Super classy Boof.

While I offered you encouragement and advice to put your cars in an elevated garage during Irma, you got nothing but jokes on me.

shameful.

Nope, was looking out for you. I'm asking the question, is it possible for roadside assistance to make a claim on their insurance with your vin# that could show up on Carfax. If that were to happen, the ding on your car would hurt its value. You would then be entitled to a diminished value claim. The worst thing that could happen would be for Carfax to show the claim and for you not to notice for several years when you go to sell the car. It would be too late to make a diminished value claim. I certainly joked about a SC but no joke on a Carfax claim against you. Hoping WAKman
(Terry) sees this and chimes in. He would likely know the answer to this.

With the cash in hand, what would you do with it if it was yours?

a) fix the valance and get a new clear car bra that covers the entire hood
b) buy a DA random orbital polisher....considering Rupes LHR21 or Flex
c) keep it in the bank
d) other

Spend it on something you've always wanted to do like a short road trip or a ferrari rental.

Not a DD..I drive it maybe 3-4 times a week...after traffic has died down on weekdays....more on weekends.

I've had the M since early June and have only put about 700 miles on it.

Can you post a picture of the scrape? I would consider keeping the $1,500 and see if you can live with it.

My brand new car already got a small blemish on the front bumper from something hitting it on the highway. Yes, I could file an insurance claim and get it resprayed and the clear bra reapplied, but do I really want to go through that hassle for something that will more than likely happen again in a year? Nevermind the gamble of the body shop not painting it well, etc.

Cars get small scrapes and scuffs, it's just part of ownership.

I think we all have that. I know this wasn't your situation, but when parking I always back in. But I understand, this has nothing to do with parking and it wasn't your fault.

Some of you guys are overly uptight about your M3. It’s just a car. Not worth the anxiety over this minuscule stuff in my opinion.

Yeah, it was just aggravating with the tow driver. First he scrapes if when he goes to drive it on the bed.

The offload was worse. He has the chain on my bumper hook, with slack. Then he releases the hand brake while the flat bed is sloped, and my M falls back fast and then jerks when the chain catches it. So F'd up. I got that on video. At least I got some $$ for my aggravation.

Typically flatbeds are the safest. especially for lower cars. good thing you video taped it. must have been very upsetting to see it happen right in front of you. hopefully the driver was financially penalized for his carelessness. these guys are supposed to be pros.

Sure, it's nothing...if I was the one who scraped it. Slight gouge on my clear bra.

But it wasn't me. It was a dipshit tow truck trucker who was f'ing careless about doing his job. Both on the load and the offload.

BMW Roadside Assistance. I expected more and got less.
