Purchase Castrol (FOLLOW-UP) 10W 60

Just checking to see if any of the Military or Civiliam members in Germany know if any of the AAFES garage stores stock the Castrol 10W 60 oil. I had heard a rumor that AAFES did stock it in Kaiserslatern, but I called several places and they did not have it.

I've just found a place in Hamberg, Germany that sells the TWS 10W 60 for 11.90 Euros, this includes tax and shipping within Germany. Two to three day delievery to your home. This price sure beats the hell out of 23.00 euro at the dealership.

www.mapodo.de

Now avail at AAFES Garage, Vilseck, Grafenwoehr, Hohenfels

I could not find any at Spangdahlem/K-town or at Chievres in Belgium; someone had suggested to me that it might be possible to special order it through AAFES but the guys at Chievres couldn't help. In the end I bought a service package (Basic Service Inclusive) through BMW IDS, at a discount relative to the European market price, and that will cover the cost of the oil when changes are required (but not top offs). So if you find something/somewhere, would be interested to hear about it.

I don't have the bill in front of me, but the 1200 mile break-in service here in Paris (which is not free) ran around 350Euros, about US$430 more or less, and the bulk of that cost was the oil, 9 liters (its a DCT, so no other fluid changes, and only the air filter)...I can't bring myself to do the math. Fortunately, I was able to get one of the BMW service packages added after the fact, and have this cost credited to the purchase price; so these oil services won't hurt as much. Still, I can buy some really, really good wines here for less than the Castrol...

I would interested to find out as well, since we are in the same neck of the woods. Buy in bulk? I did have some fluids sent in from the US, but not in a great quantity.

As an aside, and not a blatant attempt to thread jack, do any of the other European military owners know of any extended warranty or service programs over here? We just COT'ed over here, so I will outlast my warranty on the M3. Our salesman was going to get some information, but we have not gone into production yet. TIA

Holy shittt !! you have to pay for the service !!?? Good God man the car was expensive enough.. I would give it back & tell them where to shove it... and no I don´t mean London !
We pay nothing for 10 years or 100 000 km over here, whichever is reached first.

It is crazy, but the math still works out because the diplomatic price discount (at least for a US-spec) is about 2x the savings of adding back in the service package (at least the one I got). Almost by accident I found that picking up the car in Munich, vs. ordering through US dealer, we got a discount off the M3 price, which ordinarily is not available. The other good thing is I did ship over a small stash of Castrol 10W60 for top ups, which are not covered by the svc package.

If we end up getting back to the States before the factory warranty period expires, we pick up the remainder of the warranty and maintenance that remains (up to 50K miles).

That's great that you get 10years, 100,000km...is your's US-spec or European?

European, but Switzerland has a whole different contract with BMW than the rest of EU, even the Germans hate us for it

Not sure if anyone is interested but Turner Motorsport sell TWS for 10.95 a Litre:

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...ID=07510009420

I personally haven't tried ordering it from them (dont know if they will ship liquids to APO) but it might be worth a shot at that price.

We get to pay our services in full day 1 here in Greece (and in other places in Europe I assume). It is bloody expensive here not only to maintain an M3 but also to own it in the first place (price starts at E90,000 / $117,000). The only good part is gasoline cost which seems to be lower compared to the rest of Europe (not sure vs the US though). We pay E1.18/lt of V Power Racing (which is supposed to be 100octane although I don't believe it is).

Anyway, for the break in service I paid E400, which included engine oil change (9lt), DCT oil change (with the correct one!), and differential fluid change (I specifically asked / requested the latter two changes - the dealer said no need to do these). As for the cost of the castrol engine oil, the dealer sells the 1lt bottle for E17 / $22.

But we still love owning M3s here!! And there aren't that many arround so it feels kinda special!

If anyone is interested, I have a 5 liter container of Castrol 10-60 that I had ordered and will not be able to use it before I ship my car back to the states. If anyone is interested and near Heidelberg Germany. I paid $99 USD for it and I have .5 liter from the last oil change. If anyone is interested PM me and make an offer, as I have a Z4MC and dont check this board often.

AAFES now stocks the oil in Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, and Hohenfels. So if any of you guys are in this area, stop buy and pick up some. Its $15.00 a quart, but thats still a lot cheaper than at the dealership.

On the local economy it cost me about 175Euro for the oil itself when I did the 1200 mile break in, if I had known that it wasn't covered I would have picked up the oil before I went on leave. They do carry the oil in Ansbach, the guy said exclusively for M folks. I bought a case, $15 a pop total $180. Of course this was due to a 23 euro bottle I had to put in early in the morning while an A8 was feely froggy......If anyone needs a quart or two real quick feel free to let me know, I'll be up in the K-town area this weekend for the Hartge/Hooters trip.

I hope they changed your diff fluid it is part of the 1200 mile break in service, I know cuz I asked over and over and they charged me for it too, even though I wish they would have done the M-DCT fluid like the 08's.....to me its just a added piece of mind for a 2900 dollar option.

Why not just ship it back with the car for future use?

One of the auto service technicians here on Spangdahlem told me to check Vogelweh, has anyone had any luck there?

My previous e46 owner bought it from TMS, I am sure he had it shipped to APO with no prob since he was also prior Military... I will be sure to give him a call and ask him where he got it from.

I tried to get it shipped here - Was told they couldn't do it cause of USPS rules. Call the Ramstein car care center. I know the Ramstein PX doesn't have it. Was there last weekend.
