If you go C6, go Z06 or ZL1. My buddy has a Z06 and that car is a blast. I do not think there is a better looking modern corvette. It has monstrous power stock. The LS7 motor sounds amazing. It has an active exhaust (can be put on a wireless switch for $15) which will let you open it up and roar or keep it closed and whisper. They have some issues with their valve train you may want to consider as part of the ownership of one if you indeed buy one.

Would I trade my M3 for one? No, but I would consider having one in addition to it...if my wallet allowed...

You want something cheap, vert, fun, and a nice complement to your M3 and you are ok with 2 seats, get an s2000.
This isn't a bad idea... I had a Boxster s. I so wish I still had it . not a cheap as an s2000 but the fun factor. wow

Always wanted a Vette (since childhood) and prefer the classic look of the C6 to the newer C7. Did some research and decided I wanted to get a C6 GS and build it out; so, I went to find one...

Found it, got all excited to drive it...even took off the targa top to make sure I fully enjoyed it... Only thing I liked was the sounds of the engine. It felt noticeably more sloppy than the M3. The interior quality was better than I expected but still a far cry from the M3. I just wasn't impressed enough to even bother driving a Z06... It was probably faster, I don't know and I don't care honestly.

I left with one thought... "Never meet your heroes."

Ironically, I drove a C7 shortly after that and felt the same way...I guess I'm just not a Corvette guy...
What year c6 was this?

08 and up Z51 got several upgrades, better steering, shifter, and of course another "30 hp" (more like 50, the ls3 is a monster).

It only has 28,000 mile on it now, but the damn thing is tight as a drum, not a leak, not any mechanical issue.... except the driver seat broke - neither one of us are over 185 pounds.

I've auto crossed the snot out of it, put up ftd a couple times in street tire classes.... but I haven't tracked it. The car has smaller brakes than an e90 335i. Until the car has real brakes, I have no desire to take a car that fast out on the track until the brake issue is resolved. Even with the Z51 pack, the rear brakes, 13" mind you, look like motorcycle brakes because the swept area is so small.

The grand sport is a better car for the simple fact that it has the wide body and you can fit a lot more rubber under it, the suspension is the same. The Z51 and Z06 spring rates are similar, the Z06 has a bigger rear bar... I guess to go along with the bigger rear tires, but they are tail happy none the less.

Great cruiser.... all that power is addicting, and with an aggressive alignment the turn in is awesome. When I put tires on it I went from a 245 factory size to 265 on the front. Wasn't more than a half inch wider but a nominal increase in grip. Just make sure the wheel is straight before you plant the go pedal.

Thank you for your input. Love that dark red color too.

Thanks for everyone for their input. For some reason, I wasn't getting the notices of replies on here (might have accidentally unsubscribed). Anyway, I've kind of cooled off on my urge just yet; I'm thinking this might be a year or two down the road purchase. In the mean time, I also began looking at the c5 z06 which are a great deal now (late teens to low 20s in some cases), which where I want to be in terms of budget. The c6 z06 appear to still require premium money 30k+. But I'll likely test drive all of them by the time I'm done. The big news though is I got to drive my buddies 2016 or 17 z06 (only has 1000 miles)... wow 650 HP I believe.. Thing was a monster, tight, sporty, and just flat out blast...it did feel like too much power for the street...I could almost drive the car in 1st gear the whole time in the city and go in second car for about a second. This car is definitely in my future but probably more like the 5-10 year plan lol.... I am gonna get a vet as I gotta scratch this American muscle itch.... the question is when and which as there are a lot of choices and price ranges...if anyone knows where I can rent a c6 z06 in New England, please let me know.

I rode in a C7 Z06 at SEMA 2015 around an autocross-like course... holy crap, I could hardly comprehend the speed at which things were approaching. Couldn't imagine trying to get the most out of that car, which is why I'd prob go for the GS myself. It's not like 460hp/460tq in 3,400lbs is slow.

My biggest fear with a C5, even one that was babied, is that it's nearly a 20-year-old car. Things wear out with age, even if the car wasn't driven much. Even though they're cheap, it could turn into a real money pit. The motor will be solid, but it's everything else that worries me.

The C6 Z06 is holding its value because of a small group of purists. They think the new Z06 with its radical styling, supercharged motor, and insane power is just not what the Corvette is all about. That's fine, and to each his own, but it'll keep the prices inflated. I think the Grand Sport is still a solid choice in the C6 realm.
