For hand held, I turn on the gridlines in my viewfinder and use them to keep things reasonably level so that so much crop is not needed. Also, if I'm worried that I got off track a little, then I'll take a safety set.

If you do use a tripod, then check the beginning shot and then the end shot by only moving the horizontal plain. If those work, then shoot your series. I haven't used a tripod in years.

You must have a good eye for straight or have a flat horizon to do that. I have one of Haleakala on Maui that I put more effort into and had to trim minimally from some 15+ exposures. I only leveled the tripod and not the camera. I was just trying to figure out if I could get a 12 mile DOF and a half way/dome decent shot.

Here's my panorama Set on Flickr. Looking back at them, all had a line in them that I used as a reference. Sometimes it was the actual horizon and sometimes it was something else, but I always look for a reference before I start and I have a target for the last shot.

Yeah we get it pretty bad here in the bay area. Luckily it doesn't seem to bother me that much.

Nice duck too!

This group was hanging out by the creek in downtown Pinole, near where I live.

The composition is pretty good, but I'd add a bit of contrast and maybe more vibrance. Don't get carried away, but it's slightly flat now.

Thanks, I'm pretty surprised how well it came out. Maybe just picked a photogenic duck...

I'm hit and miss on the allergy days. But I still prefer the allergies to the snow of back home.

Yeah, me too. I'm seeing plenty of birds, but haven't lucked onto a mating pair yet.

The pair of kites at my local park continue to entertain me. This one appeared to be eyeballing my lens aimed at him (or her).

Hopefully they'll nest and you'll have a bonanza to photograph.

This shot is fantastic, with a great pose and eye contact.

There's so many homeless where I am right now, I keep wanting to take a picture. But just can't bring myself to do it.

You see some pretty creative box usage when there's a lot around however.

Your lenses are tempting me to go test more out, but I already have too many. Was looking at my 135mm and counting the times I've actually shot it with a sad feeling in my heart.

I hear you. In winter; it usualy gets to minus 30 degrees celcius around here. In Montreal; there is so many homeless that they pile up in the entrances of the businesses so they can keep their heat and get shielded from the wind. Its not rare to see 10-15 of them spooning; litterally.

But yet, last time I offered half of my sub that was left over; and one of them refused it because he's vegetarian... Weird priorities.

Lol..... He/she could have just pulled the meat off....

But yeah, if you're starving, eat what you can get. I'm thinking that was a homeless by choice.

I couldn't imagine being stuck out in the cold at -30c. I guess that's why there's so many homeless in Vancouver. Smart enough to get out of the cold provinces.
