I have this exact same problem, I might just take it to a reupholster shop.

On my black leather, I ordered matching dye from autoleatherdye.com and turned out pretty nice. Mine was faded but not torn in anyway. It blends in nicely with other creases in my case.

Seatdoctors.com and ask for the matte topcoat. I had the same issue near the upper part of the bolster. Here is a picture after the dye was applied. I’m pleased with the result for under $40.

As everyone mentioned Colourlock leather dye and repair kit is the product you want.

It ships from the UK, and the products may be made in Germany. It is available from Amazon and from Colourlock directly.

Look for the Fox Red/FUCHSROT BMW leather!!

I just ordered the kit this week for my BMW E9X M3 Interlagos Blue/Fox Red Interior Saalooooon.

You should get the Fox Red Kit for the leather dye and also the leather cleaning & protector kit. You also need the sanding pad and a brush or two. They make a large (150ml) and small (30 ml) kit. Checked Amazon UK and it is a mess for these Colourlock products, so order direct.

COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh (FoxRed Leather dye), 30/150 ml
COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather (FoxRed Leather filler), 7/20 ml
COLOURLOCK Mild or Strong Leather Cleaner, 30/125/200 ml (get both mild and strong)
COLOURLOCK Leather Protector (Conditioner), 30/150 ml

Cleaning Sponge
Sponge for Leather Fresh application
Cleaning Cloth

+ Leather Sanding Pad
+ Leather Cleaning Brush

Example of the kits they sell. (add options to complete the list above)

I also finished the full Leatherique leather restoration on my car with 190k miles. Order from Autogeek in Florida, which is the same as Palm Beach Motoring on Amazon. If you never treated your BMW leather for 5-10 years, this will help bring it back.

It takes 2-3 days for the entire Leatherique process. Do the passenger seat and the backseats...then the drivers seat last, so you can move the car.

Buy the 32 oz Rejuvenator Oil, since the leather soaks it up and it might require 2-3 applications. The leather cleaner doesn't do much, so only 16 oz is needed....just water gets the oil off. Mask off seat plastic and interior trim with a cut up plastic Hefty bag. The oil is a little messy and masking helps with final cleanup. Also mask the exterior and interior door handles with plastic.

Cheers

Some addition info on Colourlock Leather Products with bonus alcantara care details.

These BMW racing seats are brand new, so the products aren't really cleaning much dirt or grime from the leather and alcantara surfaces.

WARNING: DONOT USE Magic Eraser for automotive leather cleaning.

So I tried using a Magic Eraser to clean my well-worn FoxRed drivers seat (190k miles). The coating on the leather wears down over the years and now you are dealing with raw leather. So any harsh abrasives like a brush, sanding pad, or magic eraser will start to pull the leather color/dye off the seat...so it looks faded. The magic eraser also leaves a milky film on the leather. Using a magic eraser with a light touch on newer coated leather might be OK, but a good leather cleaner and conditioner/serum should do the trick. The magic eraser is a cheaper alternative to expensive leather care and restoration products.

Any good leather cleaner and conditioner will leave a matte sheen on good quality leather.

But for the localized black scuffs on your side bolster, the magic eraser can be used to get down to the original FoxRed leather color, just in this small area. Use a light touch, you are not having sex with it. Try a leather cleaner first with a brush. Follow-up with a good leather cleaner conditioner after the magic eraser to help remove the milky film.

Most leather cleaners cannot remove real grimme or black scuffs, especially in cracks or seams (surface damage).
