Skyline Run III - Pre-planning and date picking

I went out hunting for roads last Sunday and found some amazing stuff! I'm still finalizing the route but this one is going to start in Front Royal, VA. I know, it's a little far from where we usually start but it's worth it!

As for the date; Usually the weekend after a holiday has the least amount of traffic. Everyone still has leftovers, no one needs to go to the store, they're tired of spending time with other people and so on. So my pick for the best day is April 10th or 11th, the weekend after Easter.

Around 25 seems to be the perfect number of cars for these events. It's enough to make it epic but small enough that we can fit in one parking lot and not create our own traffic jams. Any thoughts on ways to keep the event around that number?

Steven, the camera man, has quit his day job and is focusing on film. Which is one of the reasons it look so long for him to finish the last video, paying projects come first This time around he'll get some compensation and the video making will be a lot better as he's going to be traveling in a separate car to get the best shots. Also, car cams are key and remember that iphones and DROIDs make perfect HD cameras.

Any other thoughts or ideas?

Meeting up together in front of a coffee shop would be nice... but whatever or wherever your the traditions are.. I'll be there on either day.

by the way, April 11 is Holocaust Rememberance Day...hmmm...

I don't know if Sunday is ethical

I heard the chances of running into the State police are lower on Sundays.

Here's one more vote for Sunday! And it would be nice to have a smaller (around 25), more focussed group.

Hi DarkstarZero!

I'm in. This time instead of my e46 M3, i may be in a IB 08 M5 - just pending a PPI to ensure its clean and no issues...

I'll be following this thread for updates!

Question Skyline Run and Charity

Nice! Another M5

So I've been thinking of a way to keep the group around 25 and a bit more focused without turning this into anything official. I'm thinking of something where each driver would have to make a (tax deductible) donation to a charity, like Red Cross, in order to attend. Or probably better yet, collect a set amount of money from each driver and then donate the total to whichever charity we choose. Because there's money involved, the only people that would come would be people that really want to be there and at the same time, we would be helping those in need.

What do you guys think? $50 a driver would come out to a $1,250 donation which can do some good.

Hey DarkstarZero!

Good idea on the "tax". Do i get a pass since i'm Active Duty military with 3 combat tours under my belt? lol. Kidding, i have no issues.

So the PPI went very well, and i'll soon be the proud owner of both a e46 M3 (drove with it on the Skyline Run in the Fall '09) and a IB 08 M5!!

So yup, thats right, i'll have " M & Ms" no pun intended....

Below is a picture of whats to be added to my garage:

I voted for Saturday, since it leaves Sunday as a "rain date". That said, even though my calendar is currently empty for those dates, there are quite a few things that could come up that might preclude me from being able to attend.

Also, since it looks like a near 50/50 split on date preference and there is a desire to keep the herd managable, maybe the run could be done on both days if there is interest. Just a thought.

I think that is a good idea. It's alway good to give. I'm game as long as it is on Saturday.

Saturday looks to be the date with Sunday as the backup/rain date. If you work Saturday, you should have enough time to request the day off
