For those with a squeak that seems to come from the Nav area...try pressing down on the flat piece of plastic in front of the iDrive screen to see if it goes away. Or try running with the heating on hot coming out of the centre vents.

I'll try that out. Btw, is that UCC Corsa Exhaust you're running? How do you like it?

Interesting to see that nearly half of all respondents are suffering from rattles. Looks like BMW should be focused on fixing that instead of working on Turbos and AWD...

I voted "No, none at all." But only after taking my car in twice to the dealership to have the rattles in my door and pillar fixed.

I've got major OCD about alien ambient noises.

I have had a plethora of rattles, but the main persistent and most noticeable one is from my headliner. It is more of a creak when torsional stress is put on the car. I have removed the rear deck and taped the back vent, taken off the 3rd brake light cover, C pillars, and nothing has really helped. I unscrewed the back part of the headliner and put some tape up there on some pieces that stick out, and also put the screws back in less tight. Seems to be a bit better, but it really comes alive when the car has been sitting in the sun. It then gets better as the cabin temp and pressure comes down. I have a B-pillar replacement coming, as there was a broken piece, and hopefully this is a part of the solution.

I have the same sort of thing going on. Mostly whenever I pull in and out of my driveway and the car is not on the flat surface it creaks.

I just posted a thread about rattles and didn't even see this one. Long week.
I'm getting tired of all of the plastic creaking while driving.

Most apparent that really showed up today was something with the drivers side door pocket. I need to take it in for that, as well as the plastic lining the underside of the drivers seat.
Also having lots of little rattles in the dash area when going over bumps. Its not so much a rattle, but more of a sound of something that just hits something else.
But its TERRIBLE when going over brick pavers. And this is my car that is lightly driven every day until the weekend comes and only has 1800 miles on it.
Love the car and wish my OCD wasn't this bad.

Ok so I have just about ever rattle but the one that drives me the most mad because it's the loudest is the rear deck and vent area below the window. U said u removed the rear deck. Please elaborate on how to take this off so I can shove towels inside there. Thx

Be absolutely sure the noise is coming from there. Try removing the C pillars and see if it gets any better. Also try removing the 3rd brake light cover and see if it improves. I simply unscrewed parts as I saw them after removing the rear seats and side bolsters. Getting the C pillar out seems sketchy, but just pull towards the center of the car after removing the screw under the plastic airbag piece. In my case, it was almost not worth removing everything, as it is difficult to do so and you need some very short screwdrivers to avoid the window. I didn't have felt tape on hand, but used electrical tape instead, though I wish I had felt.

Getting these things fixed at a dealership is nearly impossible, and if I had a tech ride in the car everywhere I went I would have a perfectly solid car.

This is the only one I can gripe about. The rear deck one. It comes and goes. My 135i rattled alot more as the interior pieces were of lesser standards.

I'll try this out too -- pushing down on the flat plastic piece in front of the screen helps slightly only.

Yes. I have had a couple but nothing to get worked up about except for this one. It really pisses me off and it doesn't go away until the next time you drive the car

I do this every now and then. Sometimes it helps, but other times it does nothing.

I think its the centre air vents that are making the noise, if it goes away when pressing down on the trim above them.
Are there any instructions around on how to remove the long trim piece that goes across the front of the vents?...once removed I reckon a squirt of silicon spray in the right place might sort it.

My 128i vert has a very annoying rattle somewhere. It's driving me nuts. I think it is somewhere in the plastic by the windshield.... Don't know how to make it stop.

I'm getting mine in September-will post back after a few thousand miles of driving.

Do we know if the E90 rattles any less than the E92? I'm assuming the answer is no-just want to be educated..

I had a few on my '09 E92 M3 - mostly when it was cold. They tended to go away when it was above 40 degF. None so far on my '11 E92 M3.

If you don't have rattles on a car like this after some time, consider yourself fortunate. You can't beat the laws of physics. When you take a torsional rigid chassis, a stiff suspension, low profile tires, a heavy car, and load it with luxury and electronics, what do you expect?

If you want no rattles, buy a stripped down 2600lb Honda Civic on 65 aspect ratio tires with 15" wheels and a soft suspension. You will have no rattles.
