What goes here

I tried searching, but couldn't find an explanation.

I just bought an E46 M3 and was looking in the engine bay. Notice big empty spot on passenger side, near windshield. What went here?

I believe 4 cylinder e-46 european models have a battery there

on earlier US models, the traction control unit went there, but they relocated it in later models
