The ticket will depend on your driving records when the cops pull your licence. When i was with my old turbo charge prelude, I always get pull over for even going 35 in a 40 zone due to stupid cops harassing. They will pick from no front tags to color light to, whatever they want to stop you over.
Recently got pull over for no front tag at 12.15AM on a thursday /Firday early monring. So if you go out late a lot and have records on street racing, be prepare to get pull over if no front tags. Bad records on license = tickets, o records = warning and so .. |

Recent Experience
Last month I was on a drive with DFW Auto Club. We had 2 groups of about 10 cars each. As we were coming out of Van Alstyne, a DPS trooper parked on the side of the road with radar blarring pulled over the last guy in line for no front plate after watching the first 8 cars go by (only 2 of which had front plates). The guy got a warning (and separated from the group). I guess it's a power/control thing.

About a year ago I got pulled over for speeding going through New Braunfels in I-35 (clocked me at 86 while I was passing someone in a 70 zone) and even though I was totally polite the cop tacked on the no front plate charge as well -- $149!! I moved here from SF where that ticket is like $25. Anyway, as others have mentioned I've heard the law is changing (has already changed?) to the point that it will become a much cheaper fix-it ticket, but I'm not sure about that.
Sorry about the tire experience OP -- have you considered getting VentureShield on your front bumper? Just got it myself and I'm very happy with the results.

Texas lawmakers passing a flurry of bills on the final day of the Legislative session in May accidentally removed a $200 fine for driving without license plates from the transportation code. That oversight means that fine and enforcement of penalties for falsifying or obscuring plates could disappear when the law takes effect Jan. 1. |

Got a ticket for no front plate about a month ago when they got me for 40 in an 30. I paid said ticket and that is all I'm going to do about it.

I got a ticket for no front plate on my E46 M3 in McKinney a couple of months ago from a DPS trooper. I took a picture of my plate taped to the front bumper, turned that in with the ticket, and they charged me 20$. Done.
Ticket eliminated. |

I don't think it matters much, for now anyway. Read this article and rejoice in their "oops". Unless Governor Oops calls a special session to redo it.

It looks like it's no longer an offense for not having a front license plate in Texas: http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/traffic/...ate-law-011112. I'm sure this will change but based on this article I'm not sure how you can be ticketed for not having a front license plate. Maybe one of our resident lawyers can jump-in: Frank/Tom?
Btw, I've never had a front license plate on any of my cars in Texas and I've never got a ticket |

That was a good video, and answered my main question of when this could get corrected via law. The answer, 2013 Legislative session About 6 years ago I ran no plate on the front, but I only had that car for 6 months, and never got pulled over. I'm pretty adamant about not running one on my new M3. |

The bad thing is that this lasted about a month before something mangled it. This definitely paid for itself (in Korea) but not worth it for TX. This will not last long at all if your car is dropped. It was pretty neat!

I was pulled over in the middle of no where a few years ago, while driving from Houston to Austin. I thought it was for speeding and was ready to accept the ticket, however as the officer approached and I lowered my window, he tells me...
-You know, you don't have a front plate. -Ohhhh... (sigh of relief), yes officer I know. I have the plate here under my seat, but I would hate to drill a hole in my car's bumper so I intentionally left it off. -Alright, well I am going to give you a warning today. Get that plate fixed! Haha and that was that. |
