Is stoptech ST60 BBK kit good enough for track and street with standard pads?

If I put ST60/380 kit on my car - would that be sufficient for casual (less that 6/year/intermediate group) track use or would I still want to have track pads for track and street pads for street and deal with changing, rebedding, etc...

I am not looking for ultimate braking performance but want consistent performance without stressing brake system too much. I had bad experience with stock brakes (fading, deposits, degraded performance) and trying to avoid that.

So will regular stoptech pads be up for the track usage? What if I went to R-ties?

Any thoughts or experience to share?

For me, and intermediate driver, they work fine but I don't wait until the last moment and stand on the brakes.
It's just a lot easier to keep the same pad in there.

I have used the stoptech street performance pads on three track days. I don't have anything to compare them to but they performed well. I will however likely get some track pads soon because the stoptech pads are quickly wearing out. I'm on 200 tread wear street tires; not running r-comps.

I love ST pads on ST60 and I drive fairly hard

I've driven on everything from all seasons to conti slicks on the car with ST pads and it took everything I could throw at it. Feel isn't as good as PFC or something, but the stopping power is there.

This isn't true. The StopTech street performance pads are a good set of pads unless you start putting down some serious times. Countless guys run the standard Stoptech pad set with great results. It's an excellent pad for street and track duty, as it was intended to be.

Yeah I have to say I'm impressed with them on my 355mm front kit. Feel and modulation are just as good as stock and (probably mostly due to far superior heat rejection from the bigger/better rotors) fade free

They don't dust as much as stock or most track pads either.
They do wear out a lot faster than track pads, but they're cheap as hell too.
And no pad changes is nice too.

Quick Pad changes are the whole appeal of Stoptech. It takes no time.

I spend as much finding the jack point, placing the jack, and raising the car as I do removing the six pins and bridge in the caliper.

I have hex head on my cordless impact driver, a punch in case the pads need to be wiggled out, and caliper spreader I got for $47 off amazon. It really is very quick to do the night before.

Track pads for Track, even more so with R-Comps.

I tracked with my stoptech street pads and they held up fine. No brake fade and they felt great. I only used them for three track days so I cannot comment on the overall wear of them.

I'd consider going with the ST40 kit for a couple of reasons.

BUT...unless you are used to a high temp/high torque pad, the street pads are pretty damned good. Although there is an adjustment, I do occasionally use the ST street pads on the track with pretty good results.

Street pads are just that, street pads. No such thing as dual purpose pads.

OP, your original question is like asking if you can track with the stock PS2 tires. And the answer is resounding Yes. They work fine. Are they good track tires when running hard? No. You won't get near the grip of extreme-type street tires, much less R-comps, and you will kill them pretty quickly.

Same for the ST pads. They'll work OK, but don't have decent max operating temperature to keep from fading and wearing out when driven really hard. The bigger calipers and discs will help some with thermal capacity but I think the pads really are the weakest link.

If you are an intermediate driver I'd say go ahead and try them out and see for you're self, you'll be fine. And when they stop being "OK" you'll know its time to upgrade to track pads.

The StopTech kits are great! pad changes are a cinch. Having a Street set and a Track set and changing out really is the way to go though.
