Need advice: good scan/reset tool
I managed to break the rear brake sensor on my sedan, so I'd like to buy a reset tool to get rid of the dash warning.
I already tied the 2 wires together, and I always inspect my pads several time a year so I don't need the warning functionality. Any ideas? Much obliged...

Bavarian Technic is probably the best BMW specific tool to get.
Autoenginuity is also not a bad choice, although it's more of a generic tool.

I have a lightly used BT Professional tool (unlimited VIN, coding, etc) that I would sell for $500 shipped. It is more than you need to reset a CEL, though. You can probably do that with a generic $100 tool

Is it with Option 1, 2 or 3? Either way, I will take it!

If it is just the pad wear sensor then you can reset it the same way you reset the service indicators, no scan tool required. The procedure is as follows: (There is also a video on YouTube of the reset procedure)
1) Insert key 2) Press start button but do not press brake. 3) Wail for the chimes and lights to stop (about 5-10 seconds) 4) Press and hold odometer reset button until the service icons come up (about 10 seconds) 5) Scroll through the different service icons with the thumb wheel on the turn signal stalk until you get to the brake wear indicator. 6) Use the push button on the end of the stalk to reset the indicator. *If the brake wear sensor circuit is open, you won't be able to reset it until you either replace the sensor or join the wires together. If your ABS wheel speed sensor is the issue then you will indeed need a scan tool to reset |

But I think I'll still look for a scan/reset tool, probably the BT one, as I plan to keep the M another 2-3 years.

Beware of the new guy who you asked to PM you about his BT Tool for sale. Look at his post count and then read his posts. Never more than a phrase, typically copied from another post. I would not send him any money without doing my due diligence.
I am not trying to use this to sell my tool. It will sell easily. The internet is like the wild west and there are scammers out there stealing money all day long. If he demonstrates to us that he is not a scammer, I will delete this post and write an apology to him in its place. |
