noob help please. Should I lease this demo M3?
ok so heres my situation i went into a BMW dealer yesterday to look at the 135i and the 335i and my father is a previous owner of a 2004 m3 and a 2006 m6 so the sales rep sees me lookin for a 1 series or a 3 and he decided to show me a 2008 demo m3.. its got 5500 miles on it, its fully loaded everything possible except paddle shifters which im happy it doesnt have (manual trans FTW) so the sales rep was tryin to get me into this car on a 3 year lease for 699 monthly with 4500 due at signing .. i know this is an m3 forum but i still want an honest opinion would you guys go for this or do u think id be better off ordering a 209 135i fully loaded ?
downfall to the m3 is its got some miles on it God knows how they drove it for those 5500 miles and also its an 08' it doesnt have the new iDrive and its almost 1 year old.. opinions please and thank you in advance.. also the buyout is $35,557 help me out i wanna make a decision todayy !! |

The M3 is way better than the 1er but the 1er is way cheaper... Maybe not to lease but certainly to buy. For a single guy the 1er may work fine and I was very much impressed on a 135 test drive. However the M3 is a much more finely tuned vehicle. It sounds as if you've already found a solution: lease the M3 and just give it back at the end of the lease. Put the buyout out of your mind.
A fully loaded 1er seems really expensive to me.

No go on a demo. I think at the end of the day, you will go with what you really want. If I were you though, I'll try and get my hands on an 09 E92 6MT. A lil more a month but a lot more fun than a 1er.

Demos scare me. Who knows if every 10th mile was done at 7500+ RPMs. Yes, these cars are well made but I would want to be the one to break in mine and make sure it lives for a long time.

Are you nuts? It's an ///M. It may have been driven hard, who knows. But the harder you drive the better these things run and it's under warranty anyway. Get the M and you get babes. This is a no brainer.

Umm, in terms of whether or not you should get one? Of course. Do those numbers make sense? Not sure... what's the reduced cap cost? Money factor? You need to make sure they're selling it (calculating the lease) to you for a good price. You won't know w/ monthly figures..

I think the M is built to be driven that way. I spoke to my SA about the break-in and he said it is just a safety measure BMW NA takes to ensure customers have a good experience during the 1st 1000 miles/ month of ownership. He mentioned you can take it to 8500rpm on the 1st day, it's totally fine!

[QUOTE=dean_g;3970348] ...a 2008 demo m3.. its got 5500 miles on it, its fully loaded everything possible ...a 3 year lease for 699 monthly with 4500 due at signing ...God knows how they drove it for those 5500 miles and also its an 08' it doesnt have the new iDrive and its almost 1 year old.. opinions please and thank you in advance..
The money factor on an '08 M3 lease is awesome right now. If you're not looking for long-term car, and are flexible, go for the M. The 135 is nice, but no comparison to an M3. Mileage at 5500? Who cares, turn it in in 3 years. Have to suck it up on the iDrive, 2nd Gen is way better, but if not buying car, not a deal killer. Maybe save while you drive this, pull the trigger on something you really want then. They are dying to get rid of '08s. Lots of room to negotiate. Tell them you have less to put down at signing. Bet they bite anyway. Good luck. |

There is nothing wrong with the first gen iDrive. It is a lot easier to use than many make it out to be. Sure it may not have all the bells and whistles that the 2nd gen has, but you are driving an M (a car designed for performance not bells and whistles)
You really need to see what the actual price of the car is that they are selling it to you for. There are several ways of getting a low lease payment without cutting into the sales price. So if you make them also cut into the sales price then either your down payment or monthly payment will be lower according to what you choose. Just remember an 08 new can be had for practically invoice so for a Demo I'd be asking for a dollar value under invoice for every 1K miles on the car. As long as you keep the car in warranty then why worry about how it was driven. Anything breaks and they will have to fix it and you should be in a loaner. |

if youre leasing, you dont have to worry bout the mileage on the car since everything would be covered under warranty and u can just return the car to the dealer at the end of the lease with no worries. the big question is ... can u afford the lease? if you can, take the M

If you're leasing and will give it back after 3 years, then reliability is a non issue since everything is covered under maintenance/warranty. Go for the M!!
