I finally found my first M E92 ZCP in Texas and cannot get over this sublime V8. The car is wrapped which is going to be a PIA to remove when I get back but underneath will be a pristine space grey paint job. One issue I have is how quiet the stock exhaust is so I'll be changing that out asap otherwise this is one hell of a machine.

Looks good! Save yourself the exhaust trial and error or guessing game and go with the Corsa rear!

If all you're looking for a bit more volume from the exhaust, do the OEM 2.5 EXHAUST MOD. There are plenty of YouTube videos showing how it's done. I had a local muffler shop do it for $120. Here's a crappy video of my car driving by after it was done.

Awesome and congrats! A year ago I bought my M3 in Phoenix and drove it back to Ohio! What a trip!

Looking forward to this. Get to drive from Vegas to DC in a couple months.
Probably need to get a spare donut just in case...

Oooh, congrats! You know, the one thing that's great about the wrap is that it at least offers some paint protection from rock chips. That's actually a great feature--hopefully the gray is pristine under the wrap. I would drive the hell out of the car if the car was wrapped and I knew I was getting it removed.
I second the modified OEM muffler route---it's how the car should have come from the factory. |

Congratz. I too picked up the M in texas. Took the drive from Houston to NY and it was a blast. If you're driving back I suggest you hit up tail of the dragon.

The 40 (recommended in winter) Watch out in Arizona eastbound on the 40. I saw numerous cars pulled over with all their stuff scattered on the side of the road as their cars were being searched by the officer. Waze and a V1 are your friend (as are sensible speeds, especially near Flagstaff). Stop by the knife store east of Flag. Not the cheapest place, but the lady that owns it has some super cool blades in all sizes. I love my bench made pocket knife. I got passed by an AMG Merc west of Albuquerque and he had to be doing 100. A mustang was hot on his tail (not a cop) so it's the wild west out there. Cop patrols west of Amarillo pretty hard, but frankly, it's hit or miss. I had a detour to see my brother on his last days before stage IV pancreatic stole him from me, so I didn't pick up the 40 again until Nashville. From Nashville I went east on 40 until I linked up with the 81 in Virginia (saw more police in the first 100 miles of Virginia than I did on the whole trip until I got there. Don't speed more than 5-ish mph over. 15 over is misdemeaner reckless in Virginia. Cops were everywhere. It's ridiculous. If you decide to be wacko and take the 70 (it f'n snowed 15 inches on me in MAY last year on this route...), spend a little extra coin and stay at the Westin Riverside in Beaver Creek. Stupid nice place. Our "room" had a full kitchen, laundry, living room, bedroom, etc. Right on a river with a nice walking/biking trail along the river. It's brilliant and pet friendly! We're already planning an August vacation there in a year or two. GL GL on the drive. It's a long one. I didn't bring a spare, I had the ///M mobility kit, an AAA card, and a healthy top end on the credit card limit... Pro tip, drive towards the center of the road, away from the edges: edges are where the debris resides.

This is awesome and I am copying and saving it all. I'll be driving in July. More worrisome is the car just overheating I suppose. Hopefully thats not an issue though. Sorry to hear about your brother. I am sure that visit was everything to you both and the detour well worth it. I do have AAA, M mobility kit in my car, and for sure credit cards. A couple bottles of 10W-60 as well. I don't want to chance it waiting in the sun out in the middle of nowhere for a tow if I can just jack it up, throw a spare on and drive to a shop. I tend to drive...swiftly on open roads. I have an Escort 9500ix & use Waze. I may need to upgrade to a Uniden R3 for this trip. However, I'm the one dumbass that actually managed to get a radar detector ticket in Virginia (over a decade ago). Grew up in that area so I know that's the one state not to mess around in.

I also used a cobra radar detector for the whole trip and it saved me a couple times with cops hiding in TN. |
