on the close call --> this is why track insurance is a good idea.

cool vid thx. looks like you were driving through a sandstorm at times...although that may have just been glare.

Nice Driving!

I was there the week-end before with the SD BMWCCA guys running the same direction (CW).

That close call was pretty scary. That could have easily been a 3 car crash ruining your week-end. During the BMW club race the week-end I was there, one racer put 2 wheels off at the same spot and almost had contact with another car trying to save it. That's differently a turn to watch for when running CW. If you don't trust the car in front... don't get too close there!

Drove thru a lot of incidents w/ dust being kicked up and it was blurring the videocam lens.

Thanks JS.

Indeed, easily a 3 car crash. Had that grey S2k edged further back out onto the track, my oh my...

Sure was! Not sure how your car fared on Sat, but a lot of incidents that day. Got a another spot on the windshield cracked by a flying rock while approaching T16, ran over a large plastic undertray between T10 and T11, almost got hit by a Vette in the hot pit lane, a track buddy badly bent a wheel at T3, etc.

Gray S2000 should have slowed as soon as he saw the spin. This is a DE, nobody cares if your lap is ruined. Irresponsible.

You would think. I keep seeing cars that go off, but drivers staying on full throttle - when the car comes back on track, the tires find grip and the car shoots off to the other side of the track and *slam*.

That was crazy close. Looked like some good times up until the colon cleansing moment. Tires done after this one? Would you say 4, 4.5, 5 days out of these tires? They look like fun

On the first lap through 16, you can see where I left my mark(s) when I went off on Saturday. At least I went off w/the throttle mashed down! Go big or stay home!

Holy crap batman! It is always scary when you lose visibility. Hard to tell where everyone is.

I am wondering why you guys have so much steering input? Maybe I am too slow, but I don't see the need to yank the wheel as much personally. Dunno

Thanks. Were you in a Space Gray E92?

After 3 days (previous event), the fronts were already starting to show cord. And, by mid-day on this 4th day, the fronts were pretty much done. As for the rears, I think I have another day on'em.

I've ran only one set of NT01 so far, but they seem to be more consistent. These TD's are phenomenal on the 1st day, very good on the 2nd days, pretty decent on the 3rd day, but atrocious by 4th day.

If not for the splice problems on recent batches of NT01's, I would buy NT01 again & run'em for most of the track days, and sparingly run TD for time attack sessions.

Damn right. I didn't hear a crunch, so I figured Ryan made it through, but at the next moment, when my view through the entire windshield was clouded w/ dust, I half expected that gray S2k to hit me on the side.

It's something I need to reduce. In any case, generally speaking, it's a series of making small (& sometimes, not-so-small) adjustments as I go through corners.

^ ^ that's probably the best idea.

I toyed around with trying to find a dedicated track car but decided to keep tracking the M3 instead. I don't want to walk away from $75K just yet so I get track insurance and that's a probably a good idea for anyone else tracking their e9X M3.

I am guilty of this also. Basically I would say we have decent car control but would need to focus on reducing the inputs and not waste so much time sliding around.

I asked a couple friends to take a look at my vid and this was their feedback (posting this here because I think others can benefit from it :

A race coach i had once described it to me like this. To Get the most out of the car you have to hustle it. That means making finite changes in the steering inputs and throttle to steer the car. If you have to catch the car which is described as a large steering adjustment That slows the car is when you've made a mistake. Large changes in steering like that normally upset the balance of the car causing a slide.

Those dust clouds can be scary. The weekend before at the CCA event a guy in front of me put two wheels off after the bowl. It created a huge cloud of dust that I went into Days Of Thunder style. It was completely blind for what felt like an eternity. I didn't want to brake hard because there were cars behind me, but there is a hard braking zone right after the bowl. Didn't know what to do so I eased off the throttle and tapped my brakes a few times hoping my brake lights would show through. Once the dust cleared I had to slam on my brakes to avoid the guy who had the off. Scary!

The insurance is more than the track days!!!
