Where is the vehicle speed sensor? Front or rear wheels?
Just wondering which wheel the speedometer reading is tied to.

So that would mean its sensing rear wheel rotation then?

Yes. If you've driven it on ice or snow and gave it a bit of gas you'll notice the speedo coming up. It's been a long while I've done it with the M3 as I don't drive it in those conditions mainly but just about any other car/SUV i've driven in slippery situations, I'll see the speedo coming up. ABS though on most cars is senced at the wheels individualy I've noticed but completely different from speedometer reading. Why do you ask? |

Being from Hawaii, I've never had to drive on ice or snow
I'm shopping for tires and I'm trying to find alternate sizes that still are as close to the OEM sizes as possible. The stagger front to back might not be exactly the same but I'm trying to keep it close. I just was curious as to which axle affected the speedo reading.

Check with someone who's been on a dyno
If the speed was going up, then it's on the rear axle
