The root from method 1 kind of looks like a (ice) curling "ball" to me

something about the 2nd method doesn't seem very practical at all to me....

it's dependent on a lot of steps that wouldn't necessarily occur 100% of the time

baboon would have to be present, baboon would be curious enough to stick his hand in there, hole in the sand would have to be small enough yet also hard enough so baboon can't just pull it straight out, baboon would have to be relaxed enough to eat the salt, baboon would not be too scared of predators to seek shelter instead,....etc...

ya ok, so ill stand around in the african desert try to figure out how to outsmart this little monster which i almost got a heart attack just looking at in the video, then tie him to a tree with my imaginary rope then spend the night freezing and then chase him to find water.

right right ... how stupid is this

I got a better idea.....

If you see a chimp then you know theres water around...GO FIND IT.

Sadly, this clip is bs. That's a clip from the movie "The gods must be crazy", which was a comedy about a bushman trying to return a Coke bottle to the gods because it fell on its head from the sky. In reality, the bottle was thrown out of a small airplane by an uncaring pilot. The movie is actually a funny look at the clash of civilization between the modern men and the bushmen.

Conceivably, the first method is plausible but the second method is a joke although hilarious for its absurdity.
