RE-11 versus AD08, Ben?

Hopefully Ben is around but perhaps some of you have tried both. I'm going to need a new set of tires which I will drive to the Barber BMWCCA O'Fest (approx 350 miles each way) and doing the 5 day track event (last year was awesome).

Anyway the question is what is the best choice with only two criteria, steering response and dry grip. I'm running 19s and will be using 255/35 front and 275/35 rears. I know R-comps are starting to become available in some 19 sizes close to ours but I'm going to run street tires one more time before I start the "let's change the tires when we get to the track" routine. Does Tire Rack still offer tire shaving and does that help much? Thanks for your input.

Hi Victor, if steering response and dry grip are your biggest factors, the AD08 would have the edge. RE-11 is a worthy contender, but they Yoko edges it out in those categories. Shaving for street tires is $25/tire, and can be done to whatever depth you specify in 32nds of an inch.

Shaving helps steering response and tread block stability at the expense of lifespan and wet performance. It can be worth it if every 10th of a second counts and you are not concerned with how many miles you get out of them.

I'm gonna be out for the rest of today, but should be back tomorrow for any follow-up.
