Fake wing gills

It's dissappointing that the gills in the front wings are fake and do not flow any air.

Has anyone considered drilling small holes to activate them? I'm assuming this would allow air to flow out from the wheel arch, reduce front end lift and due to increase in air flow, keep the brakes cooler?
