After reading this I found out I did this recall myself. The letter reflects the connector into the blower motor of HVAC. Mine failed a few months back. When I removed the plastic face bellow the glovebox.......my blower electrical wires were shit! I bought the connector and soldered up the pins and replaced. I can't wait to see how I get fucked over by my local dealer for this one even though my VIN shows I'm part of the recall.

Finally. BMW is actually fixing this. Countless threads about toasted wires. Had to take mine apart twice so far to get it working consistently since those parts were fried on mine.

How did you check your vin to confirm you’re part of the recall.

Repairs are expected to begin December 18th it says.

I find it funny that the pictures they use for that article are of an E36 M3 that caught on fire down the road from here during "SNOWPOCALYPSE", but the fires affect 2006-2011

There was also a pic of a 2012 X6 on fire.

So if you don’t use your heat or just keep the blowers off while driving, is it a safe assumption you’re not heating up the wires therefor should be ok?

That's interesting.
When I got my 2011.75 M3 two years ago I noticed that he blower motor cuts out.
Just for a moment and then spins back up to speed.

I claimed this to two different dealerships during maintenance visits and I was told that this is the controller regulating the temperature.
Supposedly they check the motor and all is fine.

It didn't impress them when I said it happens in automatic and in manual mode and that it might control the speed but why would the motor completely cut out.

Anyway, the frequency it happens seems to come down. Looking at this I guess my wiring and plug is now nicely melded together.

That's actually good news for all that had a fire, BMW will have to replace the car along with all claims that come from the fire. Just think about the emotional stress when you see your baby burning und you just escaped in the last second a sure death.
Be smart people.

This almost does make me want to drive my car more till I get the recall.

I replaced the blower motor resistor about 2.5 years ago. My blower/fan would cut in and out. This fixed the issue. Although, I do hear the blower cut in and out sometimes still.

Here is the part: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/64119265892/

Not sure if this affects the recall. Or if this part has anything to do with the recall.

Same here, my late 2011 is not listed. I had the guy at my local indy shop tell me my car was about 2 weeks from being a 2012.

Would driving with the hvac off help with this?

Does disabling cold srart prevent this since it no longer blows hot air into the cylinders?

What in the world would bmw replace it with?

Do the cars that are not part of the recall have the new wiring and connector already?

I would assume BMW would replace it with money?
It's just a car.

Alongside any other damages that might come along with a car that burns down.

If it happens they might even be open to the idea of giving a fire victim another comparable Used M3

They have quite a few used ones at the dealerships.

Did they actually change something on the wiring for the blower or how did they determine what years are affected?

There should be something that makes BMW believe it can't happen with newer cars than MJ 2011.

This is actually good for everyone ( that burns down) even if the car is not under the recall.

My 2011.75 has done this from day one. It is related not to auto vs manual AC/vent operation but auto recirculation. There are three potential settings, manual outside air, manual recirculate and auto. If you have the setting to auto, I have found that periodically it will shift from outside air to recirculate, causing a momentary stop in the blower motor.

Edit: Here is the description of the function from the manual
