Well it did...

Part Number : 61 12 0 440 812 (That's on my invoice)

The actual numbers on the cable : 0 440 796

BTW - I go to Center BMW on Van Nuys BLVD - Ask For Andre he has ALWAYS ALWAYS taken care of me!!!

ya, the cable probably costs about a buck, but they charge over a hundred for it.
check out monoprice.com for best cable deals in the world

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

okay, $4 bucks then, i was off a little on the price.
all the new adaptor does is 1. charge 2. output audio to a 3.5mm jack. it's not proprietary like bmw says. shocking!

Wow, that's a great site. Thanks for posting it.

Have you ordered from them before? How was the duty/shipping experience getting their product across the border?

ya, monoprice rules! i just wish they sold more stuff.

i order stuff all the time from them, shipping is very reasonable and duties non-existent. i usually buy cables worth a couple bucks and then duties do not apply. just last week, needed a cable to connect a DVI(computer) to VGA(monitor, old monitor i want to use dual screen), checked it out on monoprice and voila, i think it was $5 with shipping.
don't even think about buying stuff elsewhere like futuresh@p, total ripoff. better quality with monoprice. fuggedaboutit! just do it, you will thank me for years to come.
you owe me a beer next time i'm in Halifax haha

Has anyone tested the monoprice cable yet? There have been alot of issues since the cable from BMW apparently has a chip in it and it wont swap for generic cables.

Thanks,

Irish

Just an update, I have the 0 440 796 and it charges and works well. You will still get the "This accessory is not supported" or whatever. Don't worry about it though.

For all batteries, even Lithium types, you should cycle your battery to fully empty once in a while to maintain its full capacity. If you move your iPhone from your cradle at home to the car charger and then to a cradle at work, its always getting charged and will never fully drain. You might never hit 50%. This will ruin your battery over time and reduce its life and capacity.

Cheers,

Irish

While this may have been true on older lithium ion batteries, it is no longer as relevant. The phone within the iphone has a more efficient battery than cell phones of the past and although charge cycles are still applicable, they are now measured in fractions as well. Drain you battery half way, then charge it, then drain halfway again, its only one charge cycle.

That's true, but if your always charging you battery, it will not fully cycle as fast. Cycling the battery often keeps it fresh and delicious

I placed an order from the web site a little over a week ago and just got it today. I tried it right away and found that it does not work. I get a message on my iPhone saying this is not an authorized accessory. It does not charge the phone, nor am I able to control the iPod section through the car controls.

I can select, play, fast forward, etc. songs directly from the iPhone and they will play through the stereo but all I see on the iDrive screen is that I'm in Aux source. I can't say how disappointed I am that this doesn't work. At least it wasn't an expensive attempt.

That sucks. I was reading all of the threads about using the iPhone with my car while the car was being delivered. The cradle was over $400 with all 3 parts I needed and it didn't work with an iPhone case so that was out. And BMW said their cable was $125. Thankfully when I got the car, I looked under the armrest and there was a cable from the previous owner.

If you look around on the internet, there are some cables that have the chip in them but I cannot confirm that they work. They are cheaper that the BMW one so they may be worth a try. Make sure they reference the chip in the cable though.

I have the same cable "0 440 796" and it worked until I upgraded my 3GS to 3.1.3. Now it doesn't charge anymore. I went up to the dealership because I though I may have a faulty cable. My salesman had a 3GS with 3.1.2, plugged it in to my car and sure enough it charged his. Something else that is odd, we plugged my phone it into a 7 series and it would charge. But not in the M3 or any e9x for that matter. I don't know what the issue is, but I would avoid upgrading your 3GS if you want it to charge with the cable. Does anyone else run 3.1.3 and NOT have this problem?

What I have found is that my 2008 M3 (older idrive w/ most recent software update-never updated the y-cable) charges my 3GS iphone, while my girlfriends 2009 335xi (current idrive with software to match), DOES NOT charge my iphone.

I've swapped cables to prove it's just the vehicle's software.

To the OP, do you know what software version you are using in your car?

How do you check what the software version of your car is?
