Quick clip of me driving with both the original GoPro and GoPro2 side by side

Picked up a GoPro 2 the other day. I also have the original GoPro so I thought I'd put them both head-to-head on a quick drive through town. The camera has been improved in many ways including an option to shoot 120fps video, but the most important part is video quality. It could be better, but I think it's a pretty nice step up overall.

Set it to 720p or higher to see the difference in quality between the 2.

The sound gets a bit weird at times because I set the left camera audio as the left channel audio and the right as right. Thought it would create a nice stereo sound, but I think the videos are milliseconds out of sync which causes some strange sounds from the wind.

I don't see a big enough difference honestly. Plus it seems they obviously haven't fixed their crappy sound issues.

You must be seeing something that I am not. One just seems brighter than the other. I don't notice anything else.

Did you set the resolution higher? There's a huge difference in image quality.

cool comparison, would you mind doing a second comparison with both cameras on the same side of the car? I wonder if one being in the shadow of the car (driver's side) versus the passenger side in direct sunlight would make a difference?

I am pissed that I just got a GoPro in October, only to have the GoPro 2 come out a month later

I don't, but here are a few I've watched before deciding to upgrade:

The second set of vids is much better for comparing since the OP's had once camera in the shade through much of the video.

And they did address the sound issue since there's a mic input now.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Yea I didn't see the point in doing the exact same videos as the ones I did research on so I figured I'd try something new.

And external mic is nice, but doesn't really work as a good solution if you are mounting outside of the car. If you really want to go through the trouble to get better audio, you'll probably want much better video as well.

I just watched the video as is assuming it was being played as we were meant to see it.

Watched it again. Yes you can see the difference when the video is set to 1080. I still wouldn't upgrade if I had the original. And from the sound of the video, it seems that the wind noise is actually worse on the new one over the old one. Other comparable cameras are just as good quality wise and get rid of the noise. Just my .02 since it seems most here are in love with GoPro.

Upgrading - Thanks for the vids.

120 FPS is huge for high speed action or slowing something down so for that alone I'd upgrade.

You try listening to the "sound" by sticking you head out the window.
I bet you'll barely be able to hear the engine.

I bet you stick any other audio recorder out the window and it won't be any better.

The left and right out of sync actually sounds pretty cool.
I agree the gp2 has slightly higher resolution. I have three gp's. Anyone interested?

This comparison, albeit this is the GP1, you can see the faults of the GP sound.

GP actually did pretty well imho.

Part of the sound characteristics could be from the plastic enclosure. Unless they get rid of that it's going to stay the same.

Hey OP, thanks for the comparison. Want to pick up one of these and was wondering about the difference between the two, now that the original Hero is at a lower price.

Thanks for this too Tech. Didn't realize there were any viable alternatives to GoPro. Looks like the Replay XD may be one indeed. I also like the way it looks.
