my first ever track day with my m3

This is my first time tracking and it was a blast and scared myself a little at certain turns as this track is high speed track compared to others here in California.

Overall the car ran awesome and I cannot wait to go back

It was at Thunderhill Raceway in California on 6/30/12

Here is a video of one of my sessions and this is my first time tracking so don't flame on my track driving skills hahaha 17:17 is where the little slip happened originated from.

I would run 36psi HOT next time. Not sure if you ran 40psi hot or cold...try 36psi HOT and I think you'll notice a huge difference

to be honest, I'm surprise you didn't flip that car b/c of your non-CF roof....j/k. Looks like you had a blast. Beats all the posers with CF roofs telling others how awesome their low center of gravity is for the track.

hahaha I love it! You demonstrated that a moonroofed M3 with 6 MT can run pretty well on the track. How did the gearbox feel?

I did 39psi hot in the front and 37psi hot in the rear. So I should do 36psi HOT front in rear?

so that's the rave about cf roof :P Yes, it was so much fun even though I missed a bunch of apex's hahaha but its ok. I think everyone with an M3 should try tracking at least once.

They held up great and surprisingly strong. I totally forgot to do what I learned in autox was to go to the skid pad, accelerate to 40mph and smash on the brakes learn what your brakes can do.

Welcome to the dark side! Looks like you took to driving out there well.

Most tracks on the east coast don't allow the sunroof open, YMMV. Where's your coach? This was your first time and they made you go on track alone?

Nice catch around 17 minutes. Most newbies don't countersteer past 90 degrees...you realized you needed to and did it. Was there any MDM on?

Looks like you had a blast!

Do you need a coach in the passenger seat the first time you track your car?

I never tracked my car and I would love to take the next opportunity to do so. Is there a track event scheduled in the So Cal area anytime soon?

@demonshin - I recommend starting at 36psi HOT then see how you like it. I start there and depending on the weather and how my tires are reacting to the conditions I raise or lower it...most of the time lower the pressure

Agreed, kinda of surprised you didn't have an Instructor. I have learned A TON from my previous Instructors.

First mod on my car was: Brake Pads......

Just curious how you arrived at this pressure? And do you do this for any tire? Stock suspension/alignment?

It was pretty smooth but since it was my first time out I was not super aggressive with it. I took my time to get use to the track and the speed.

Yes I am addicted!

Well this was driving school we had 5 heats the first 2 we were in groups of 4-5 following the instructors car around the track going about 40-70mph. Then you learn about passing and where to pass, since we are beginners we can only pass on the most straightest part on the track.

The last 3 heats were open where we don't have to follow instructors but they are on the track driving with us. There were a lot of rules we had to follow and bunch of watch towers watching all of us and flag us if we mess up.

I had M mode on and DCS totally off because I did not want to get spoiled with it. Plus how else would you learn how to control your car totally

Yeah it really happened so fast and I just reacted...

No we did 2 heats following an instructor and we 2 had 1 hours classes teaching us rules and stuff.

I am not sure about the club I went with. You can check them out as they do track days at buttonwillow.

Will do! My friend was also helping me as well. He is an instructor for the race club.
