Introduction
Greetings.
First of all, I want to say that this board KICKS ASS. Great job guys. I am blown away at how much info is here, and how much technical info you guys find! You guys fricken rock! I am 90% certain that I am going to order a M3 soon so I figured I would intro myself as I will be frequenting the board. I have owned a few other BMW's in the past...a 79 320i, a 02 325iT, a 95 M3(turbo'ed...written up in a mag years ago), and a 97 M3/4. The 97 was pretty heavily modded for the track. I go by ArcticFox on some of the other boards (but it was taken on this board) and have been around for quite a while on various boards. I figured I would say hello as I bet I will be around quite a bit from here on out. I have been tracking cars for 11 years now and instructing for about 3 or so, although last year I guess I was on break. lol I have raced 125cc shifter carts on road circuits (Sears Point (Infineon), Thunderhill, etc.) and loved that to death...the wife OTOH, didn't. lol I was pretty up to speed an the E36 M3's and could answer about any question about them. Now, I have forgotten much of it as I have been focused on the GT3. I look forward to getting into the nuts and bolts of the new M (prolly a E90 for me) and having fun with it. That's about it for me. See you guys around. Tim

Welcome!
Glad to see another member who is not just concerned about a car's cosmetics. Some pics or you will be banned

Welcome to the board. Are you planning to sell the Porsche to make room for the M3, or keep both?
Just curious, is your interest in the M3 to have more room (ie more practical) than the Porsche? I am looking to sell my Boxster S to go to the M3 but the decision is largely based on practicality since the M3 can be an everyday driver, fun car, and track car. The Boxster was more of just a track car and Summer date car. |

The GT3 is, IMHO, about the best street legal track car you can get, within reason of course. That being said, that is its primary mission...track use. Being as I have a kid, and my time is more and more focused on her activities and transportation, etc., I need something that will handle more than one passenger and take a bit of bags, luggage, etc. When the three of us want to go somewhere, we certainly can't take the GT3. I find myself more and more not driving the car because it just is not practical for what I need right now. So whats the point of having it? I have had very little time for track stuff and am somewhat burnt out on it anyways. So, its time for a change! I have been kicking this around for about a year now.....I told myself I would wait for the GT-R, the E90, and a few other offereings this year to decide. Well, now that the E90 is available, I have just about concluded that the E90 will work well for me. I will post up a few pics of my car shortly. Some of the pics are older and show some cosmetic things that were not changed at that point, but I will post nonetheless. Thanks for the warm welcome....and I can take some bashing here and there...no worries!

Here are a few pics, mostly older. The pic of the "Seats" and "Rear seats" are not my car, but mine is identical, euro seats and all. I have some more pics at home, which I will endeavor to upload later today. Let me know if you have any questions, I am always happy to talk shop. Tim
In the first pic, you can seat the drivers euro seat and the passengers "sport" seat (standard inthe US). Both of mine are now euro seats. I have replaced all the amber markers with smoked now. Also the 3rd brakelight is now smoked. I replaced the wheel center caps with "GT3" scripted ones and added a Silver Porsche Crest hood badge instead of the gold (tacky IMHO). I have done little else to the appearance of the car.

Here is a pic of the euro seats...in a turbo, but I have the same ones...but with red 5-point harness. The interiors of the turbo and GT3 are about identical. I think I have some better shots of my cars interior, etc. at home, so i will try to find them tonight.
Ah, in my sig you can see the smoked lights on the bumper. I think it looks way cleaner that amber. The first thing to go on the E90 with be them damn bumper reflector things...I bet bumperplugs.com would make up someting for us to put in there.....

Oh yeah, being as the front of the car is pretty damn wide open, all kinds of crap gets into the a/c condensors and radiators. So, I made some mesh inserts to help protect them. I was amazed at how much crap I pulled out of the radiators and condensors before I did it. Now it stays much cleaner, and thus, efficient. Here is a pic of my finished product.
