Yeah seriously, if they want to save..there are shops that specifically set up themselves at the boarder for this purpose.

Fedex Ground has good rates. Protect the face with cardboard and wrap in heavy layer of plastic, no box. Should be the cheapest way to go. Not sure about any import duties or how to minimize those.

Yeah depending on the area it can be that expensive. I've seen wheels ship to Canada via OnTrac for around $120 though (not including duties).

UPS isn't the best to go to Canada from what we've seen, customers that we have aren't liking their higher rates for duties. That's why for VMR we use OnTrac or Bax Global.

If it's at FedEx/Kinko's then it really depends on the employee(s) on the clock since some of them don't know if they can accept packages like that (they can). However, at any FedEx warehouse or whatever it's called, it'll be fine. I've always shipped wheel & tire packages like this. In fact, I've gotten wheel & tire packages from Tire Rack packaged as such (cardboard & nylon straps).

Yes, they do. I have shipped and received many wheels packaged this way (just sent my 19s to somebody a few weeks ago.) When I bought those from another forum member, Fedex packaged them for him this way.

We use DB Schenker for our shipment to Canada.

They're much more reasonable than UPS or Fedex for customs.

We get a pretty decent deal from UPS for brokerage, usually btw $20 and $40 depending on the value, but from what I've heard their brokerage is usually much higher than that.

db schenker is a good way to go. they also allow canadians to clear their goods through customs personally without the need to pay brokerage.
