Downshifting "Electronic" Whine / Grind
Hey Everyone,
Today, while really beating on the car around town and enjoying my new tune, I started to notice this horrendous electronic "whine" when downshifting in third gear. It seems to only happen after the car is good and warm, since when the car sat at home for about two to three hours, and I went back out, it didn't start happening again until the car was warmed up. Oddly enough, it seems to only be heard when I'm downshifting into third gear. I hear it slightly in fourth, barely in second, and never in any other gear. The sound is this terrible electronic whining / grinding for the first few seconds while the clutch is engaging, and then the sound returns to the normal whine of downshifting. I brought it into the dealer, and the M-Certified master tech drove it and heard it, and mentioned either the throw-out bearing or clutch. I'm a bit confused though, since I really only hear it in third gear, and if it were either of those two, I would think I would hear it in every gear. I'll be out of town for the next week and a half, so I scheduled the appointment for when I get back, but figured I'd ask the gurus on the forum what their thoughts might be. Thanks in advance! |
