Going from Electronic Performance Steering Wheel to stock

I just picked up my E92 M3 a week ago and it came with the Electronic Performance Steering Wheel V1 installed. I prefer the stock wheel which I've already ordered, but since the previous owner didn't give me any stock parts, I need to know what else I need to install the oem wheel. After reading Doba's guide, my understanding is I need:

-Steering wheel (obviously)
-OEM coil spring cartridge part #61319122509
-Connector X10170(?)

I'm not sure if I need that last connector, could anyone tell me if the installation process retains that black connector (that connects to the coil spring) somewhere in the car? If not, any idea where I can find one? It hasn't come up in any of my googling.

Is there anything else I'm missing? Thanks in advance for the help, I'm loving the new car, just going through the few personalization touches it needs to make it mine.

Sorry I can't help you with your question, but I'm curious why you don't like the performance steering wheel? I had been thinking about getting it, but you're the first person I've read who didn't like it.

The only thing I found about the Performance Wheel that I don't like as much as the stock wheel is the lack of ///M colored stitching. But I assume you have more serious critique. Could you share? Thanks.

I'm just not really all that crazy about the display, I just personally like a more "pure" wheel myself. The shift lights are kind of cool, but when that functionality is already built into the dash then I don't really have all that much use for it. I think the triple stitch wheel without the displays looks a little classier.

I don't suppose anyone has any answers for me?

You'll just need the clock ring and to put the (6) wires back in the stock lead plug at the clock ring(X10170 plug) which I don't know if this will remain present with the other column wiring or if its removed with the install... may need the X10170 housing too.

Search the DIY section for the installation pics. You'll also need to remove the controller and associated wiring. There are two CAN leads that you'll need to swap back into the original car harness on the passenger footwell side(Blue X14271 plug/harness) as well as remove whatever powered leads they used to power the wheel - on the V2 they patch into the CAS harness in the drivers footwell with jumper pins. Seems the V1 was "just wired in to whatever battery-retain lead" installers could find/use. Lots of people installing on the cigarette lighter lead... which seemed to have some issues with retention and all.

Thanks, I suppose I'll just have to open everything up to see if the x10170 housing is still there or not. For the rest, it seems fairly straightforward. I'll just order the clock spring for now and hopefully the rest will work out.

Damn you probably would've easily got someone to trade you their stock wheel plus some cash for your wheel.

It's tougher to find than you think! I'll be putting it up for sale once I replace it, though!

Post it in the for sale/trade section and in your regional section.

You wont get as many views here.

You're going to need the housing, won't be there

unless you're lucky and the previous owner saved it somewhere for you. Also the new clockring plug(white) is not numbered that I can tell. Make sure when you swap that you keep the pins/wires in the same vertical orientation from plug to plug. Pretty easy mod, mine went in without much drama.

I'll get better pics when I get my new shifter/boot with matching stitching.

this car has no tell-tale sign other than the rev limiter up top so hoping this will help me stay out of it. I would have retrofitted the DCT console if that were an option. Not sure what BMW was thinking just using the RPM lights on the DCTs only

You'll need the to switch the 12-pin PSW connector to the stock 6-pin if you've misplaced the connector housing.

Part #61.13.6.925.586 from BMW. Make sure all pins retain their originals positions when transferring over to the 6-pin connector.

Thanks, that part number is a lifesaver! Thanks everyone for your advice, I'll post a WTT thread now.

I am desperately trying to find the P/N for the 12 pin PSW connector that plugs into the coil spring. Do you happen to know what it is.

Thanks
