You consider the BRZ a supercar?

That's some weird mix of competitors there. They got supercars, and then they threw in a couple of muscle cars, then the luxury cars and some track cars...and then, well, the Subaru. I think you can't compare these fairly unless you consider something else besides straight line speed. Just my 0.02

Americans and their fascination with 0-60. Will never understand why that is considered the end all, be all.

You guys didn't hear about the main contest? They do a best driver's car contest and have all the cars driven around Laguna Seca by a pro race driver. Then they are ranked on driving ecperience.

The drag race is just a cool thing they do at the end.

^^^This. The thread title isn't accurate. These are the cars that competed in the Best Driver's Car challenge; hence the inclusion of the BRZ.

Here's the article - http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...r/viewall.html

BTW, the BRZ finished 4th. The Aventdaor, dead last.

His little flag says he's Russian. I'm guessing that's where this "dumb Americans" comment is coming from.

Actually, I did not write "dumb" or any other derogatory remark. I was merely implying that American automotive design/literature/culture is heavily based on 0-60mph speed tests, and straight line performance in general. Motortrend is an American magazine, with mostly American contributors and editors. Where I come from originally has nothing to do with this observation, it in fact helps me make an unbiased one because my people are notorious for the shit quality of our cars and thus lived vicariously through the rest of the automotive world.

And the cold war has been over for 20-plus years, many true "Americans" (outside of the actual Americans, the Native variety) still think the Russians are evil and whatnot.

Seemed implied by the comment, but no big deal.

I think my E92 is a super car, but that's not a list I would expect to find it on. LOL

We're REALLY sore losers over Sputnik

The actual video I think was really just good entertainment. BRZ? Really? It's like inviting the slow kid from the block to play roller hockey cause your mom makes you.

Drag racing and muscle cars have very humble blue collar roots. For the majority of Americans it is very difficult financially to participate in most forms of motorsports other than drag racing. Not many people can afford to make a car handle and brake well or afford cost of consumables such as: new tires, pads, rotors, gas, fluids, etc for track days... Drag racing in my opinion is entry level choice that allows people to participate and get a feel for motorsports. Think of American muscle cars and the 1/4 mile as the "gateway drug" into motorsports.

On the other hand I participated in my first track day with a group of pro touring muscle car guys. The majority of them didn't have ABS, traction control, or any other electronics to assist them... The paddock was also filled with full sized trailers, tools and people that actually know how to wrench on their car since most of them built their cars from the ground up in their garage. I know many of them began with drag racing, then auto x, and finally road courses...
