Questions on M3
Alright flame suite on. This is my first venture into the foreign car world. I've had nothing but GM products for the last 31 years and have thrown the towel in on that manufacturer.
I've been reading the forum for the last few hours and my head is swimming with numbers, E90, E92 E93 soon to be F90 etc.. What the heck does all this mean? Is there a table or some secret code stashed somewhere to decipher all of this? Oh I'm looking at a LeMans Blue M3 sedan I might pull the trigger on this week depending on Trade in for the Cadillac CTS-V. Also any good deals out there? I have a quote from USAA for a pretty fair price on an M3. The dealer was telling me they don't discount much above invoice and BMW does not sell below invoice etc.. Having only dealt with GM's lies I was looking for some truth in this. Thanks and I'll be back reading trying to decipher the secret codes. |

Current model M3... E90 is the sedan, E92 is the coupe, E93 is the cab.
Next generation M3 due out in 3-4 years... F30, F32, etc with the same meaning. Some dealers discount, others won't. Depends on the market you are in. For example, those in California seem to get lots of discounts. In smaller markets (like most in Canada and in other part of the US) where competition isn't as strong, little to no discounting. Maybe someone from your area can comment specifically.

Thanks that clears up those numbers. My head is spinning with numbers. My poor wife when we walked through the dealer lot tonight spotted a 650i and was almost drooling on the car until she saw the price.

The E?? and F?? codes are platform designations used by BMW internally. They are associated with a market designation. For instance, the E90 platform is known commercially as the 3 Series sedan. The E9x (E90, E91, E92, and E93) are respectively the 3 Series Sedan, Touring, Coupé, and Convertible.
The E in E?? stood for Entwicklung, which is german for "Development". When they reached the end of the E??, they switch to the letter F. The current generation 7 Series was the first F?? platform available to the public, as the F01 7 Series 750i. Assuming the M3 you are looking for is the current generation then it would be an E90 M3. Hope that helps. |
