This is scary....

Don't ride behind any 2005-6 Corvette's for a while...yikes!

Beetles, Corvettes being recalled
Brake lights could cause problems on the 1999-2002 Jetta, 1999-2000 Jetta III and the New Beetle from 1998-2002, and roof panel adhesive in GM 2005-2006 models, NHTSA says.
May 26, 2006: 4:36 PM EDT

DETROIT, May 26 (Reuters) - Volkswagen AG is recalling 362,000 cars in the United States because a brake light switch may malfunction, according to U.S. safety regulators.

The models involved include the Jetta sedan from 1999-2002 model years, Jetta III from 1999-2000 model years and the New Beetle from 1998-2002 model years, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its Web site on Friday.

NHTSA said the brake lights could become inoperative, or remain on if installed incorrectly during a previous recall.

Separately, NHTSA said General Motors Corp. is recalling 30,793 Chevrolet Corvette cars from the 2005-2006 model years as the adhesive between the roof panel and the frame may separate and the roofs could fly off.

"If there is a complete separation, the roof panel may detach from the vehicle and it could strike another vehicle and cause injury and property damage," NHTSA said.

Those things aren't light and they could cause some serious damage to a car and/or human being if they come flying off at any speed. This whole thing sounds weird because I remember those tops having manual locking mechanisms on each side to lock them to the body. Maybe GM changed something.
