New Review... Riss Racing Axle Back Exhaust 'Sport-Version'

Hey guys... well I'm one of the 'original Riss Racing' Axle Back purchase customers, that was able to get great gains on the Dyno with their 'Race System'... but the noise, and drone was a bit much for my car (with no cats on it, when had with RPI Off-Road Pipes... still for sale here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=287366 )

I removed the RPI Off-Road Pipes, in favor of Riss Racing's new HFC X-Pipe, which allows to swap out Cats, for straight pipes for those 'track days'... and still be civilized during the week!

Their Hi-Flow Catted X-pipe, still flows considerably more than the stock Catted/Resonated section... and drone was still a bit loud to me.

So, Riss Racing had mentioned they were developing a new 'Sport' version... that added about 3" in length to the muffler, and a 'Y' to the outlet pipes... that they believed would cure the drone.

Well, I'm very pleased to say that they knocked the ball out of the park with their new 'Sport' System... exhaust sound outside of the car, is gorgeous... and inside the car... is quiet! Bluetooth is back in action!

I've posted a couple of rear pics of the new system... hopefully I can get some sound clips up soon!

Thanks to Adam, Anthony & Daniel from Riss Racing... all of them have been great to work with, and been very informative via email & phone.

Peace,
Dave

PS... I had to add a pic of the new lift I just got installed this morning too! That's why in the 'rear exhaust' shots... you see the jackstands, and stuff on my pad lift... I was 'cleaning' out the area for the new 4 Post lift! Gonna make swapping out parts much quicker going forward!

Hey Dave, glad to hear that you're happy with the new sound. The Riss mufflers look so sexy .

On another note, how are you liking your PC tune? I'm loving mine; thanks again for helping me get it lined up .

Hey Powertrip, Yes, the PC Tune is awesome, and I'm glad you did it too... I find myself 'forgetting' to hit the M button, because the response is so 'positive' in 'normal' now!

Thanks,
Dave

Can you take pictures of the tips up close? Also, can you take a video of your setup?

Hey Harris... Yes, I'll try to get some video this week.

The tips... I actually modified... originally they were their 'standard' Pencil Cut (45' angle) tips. I thought the 'Straight Cut' circle tips looked better... so I had them cut at a muffler shop... and then I installed them.

They are round chrome tips... look very nice. The adjust-ability is a big plus... as you can tailor them to your 'preference'... I like to have them in pretty far, like the OEM tips were.

Peace,

Dave

Nice looking exhaust!

Question for you- in your second picture, your left exhaust looks a little crooked. Is it because of the picture or is it actually crooked?

Looking forward to sound clips!

I like those tips. Did you just have the Riss tips cut?

Is that Sport sytem out now? I'm suppose to go in to get my exhaust installed soon. I hate drone, but plan on keeping the stock resonators and maybe taking the secondary cats out at some time.
Thanks for posting.

Hi Dev... exhaust is straight... the reflection of the shiny muffler makes it tough... but tips are level.

Hi Aus, yes, I just had their tips cut... cost $20 at Midas for all 4. Riss may offer them as an option going forward, (that's what I recommended as some people have different tastes in tips).

And yes, I believe the Sport System is now available as well. I'd highly recommend it.

Let us know what you decide!

Dave

Installed mine last week and I am still speechless!!! There is absolutely NO drone at highway speeds. I applaud their engineering prowess, as the original was insanely loud. Maybe 10% louder than Dinan. PERFECT!!!

Not sure how to embed video yet, but these are some video clips my wife took on my iphone from this weekend at the Mosport Development track. You may be able to hear the ALMS cars in the background!

Another incredible thing happened. After a day at the track, the heat turned the entire exhaust a fantastic golden hue!!! Looks REALLY cool!!! Again, iphone pics. I will submit better clips and pics later. Can't say enough how pleased I am with this exhaust!!!

UPDATE: Having exhaust shortened 3" to tuck tips totally under valance. Will update pics tomorrow.

This is great news. I just might be on board again if the drone is gone. I didn't see anything on their website about the sport version. Do you have any more details? Is the price still $1200?

I called them today, and they wouldn't confirm I was getting a Sport version. He just said I'll be getting the latest version. Not sure what that means?

I call this exhaust Version 3.0 as I believe this is the third development of it. This is the only exhaust they are currently selling. We pre-purchase guys are calling it the sport version because we had to endure the previous race exhaust. The only area that may have a little drone is the dreaded 1750-2250 rpm zone. Idle is very smooth, cruising at 55-80 is great, very low hum.

Thanks to PLAYHRD for the inspiration! Just had my exhaust guys shorten the revised Riss exhaust pipes 3" to compensate for the added length of the new mufflers. They also repositioned the brackets to allow the tips to hug the valance. I really like the angled tips so I had them compensate for them. Love the look and the sound. Gold tone is perfect with the Jerez Black!

Here is a close up pic of the Tips, that I had modified to be a round cut.

And then here are some vids... sorry about the quality... the only 'outside' the car, video was with my dad holding it... but hopefully you'll get the idea.

1st Video is me driving away in the car... (Probably should have been closer to camera): (I think it sounds best if you don't look at the video, while you listen... too 'shakey of a camera hold'.
[u2b]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MDregdaDBGA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MDregdaDBGA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/u2b]

2nd Video is a quick rev in Neutral to show how quiet in the car. (Again with a HFC Riss Racing Xpipe as well:
[u2b]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TwI0qOEBrEk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TwI0qOEBrEk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/u2b]

3rd Video is going through 1st into 2nd, and around a corner:
[u2b]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/v3NCnzbMYes&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/v3NCnzbMYes&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/u2b]

The nice thing is... you can tell how smooth car sounds (inside & outside)... and I have the Riss Racing Hi-Flow X-pipe as well as the mufflers. Obviously w/ Standard Cats & Resonators... it'd even be a little quieter.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Very nice, the color is great. I wish I had an older muscle car to complement the new technology. Big engine, 4 wheels, gas pedal! Throw in a brake pedal as well.
