BMW should be able to make much more power than 450 PS with THREE turbos! Look what they can do with (just two turbos on) the N54!

I'll wait a year or two after the F3X M3 arrive to see if they have failures on their fuel pumps or things related to having FI engines, and see how they deal with it. Then for sure I'll consider owning the new M3.

I understand what you guys are arguing, my concern would be how much power can they make while keeping the motor reliable? They have to up the ante from 420 bhp from the normal aspirated beauty of v8 but what configuration, cc's?
That is the question, let's enjoy what we have for the next 3 years and then see what those engineers come up with in Bavaria.

My friend has a Toyota supra twin turbo with over 100,000 miles on it still going strong , it has upgraded fuel system, hks single turbo 4" full exhaust , it has 600 rwp and it's been like this for years,it's an absolute beast,That is old technology compared to today ,they have basically perfected turbos, I'm sure it will be really reliable , also it's so easy to add power to a turbo engine

“but this is something we could do easily.”

That's not very comforting. ///M cars are supposed to have passion and history behind them. It's not something that should be "easily" done.

I think he meant that they have the proper resources to make a Z4M, not that it would be a fast process. Even if the Z4M is made from M3 components and has an M3 motor, i bet it will be fantastic like the last version was if they follow the same formula.

I'll wait for 2028 V8 TT M3 with 600HP, I'm still thinking if I'll opt for the total CF body (option ZCF = $3500) or get the regular CF roof and hood base model. After all, those $3500 can get me their upgraded Brembo brakes (ZBK) and their new adjusted aero spoiler (ZSP) that thing is amazing.

Is it rumored to be a V6TTT or I6TTT? I thought it was mentioned on here awhile back that a V6TTT was a potential configuration?

top tier modern turbo systems don't have lag anyways, so no need to add more complication

I actually think it is absolute genius to have an electric turbo to absolutely elimnate lag. It actually will be able to bring on torque at almost 0 rpm (not that its overly useful but shows the point electric power is instant whether direct drive or turbo.

The electric will likely contribute to the first 3000 rpms and then will taper off and let the 2 other turbos each boost 3 cylinders since by then enough exhaust has been already spooling the turbos so as soon as the electric one shuts down, the other ones are instantly going.

What I really do not get is this actual clear push to the extent of stating it in the goals of the next m3 to be signifigantly more fuel efficient?? There are SO many fuel efficient models in the bmw lineup and I just think they should continue giving consumers some choice to pick performance over gas milage as long as their fleet is compliant with whatever the goal is. I just do not see why a specific m3 goal should be fuel consumption decrease.

I don't know. A triple turbo with one being electric sounds more like a V6. Turbo each side for the 3 exhaust ports and one electric on top. There is also the advantage of weight distrobution as the I6 forces the cabin further back. More compact V6 could shorten the hood length and thus save weight and retain motor weight behind the front axle.

Interesting to think about either way. Three turbos sound heavy.

sooo... one of those turbos wouldn't be a turbo but would be a supercharger. turbo means exhasut gasses no? bi-turbo + electric supercharger.
