Awesome weather right now!

I'm planning on shooting some vids of my exhaust later this afternoon, after I get off from work.

Hey guys,

Do any of you in Houston have a set of coilovers installed? I am in desperate need of the factory rear bumpstops (part 3, rubber part only). I modified mine for Moton coilovers, but the Motons are having issues and now I have to go back to factory suspension temporarily for a road trip. I ordered new bumpstops but they are still on the way from Germany...

I am willing to pay or trade you my new ones when they come. Let me know!

Thanks so much!

not sure if one is made yet... I know the design of the intake will not be able to maintain pressure from a turbo. I think the supercharger kits are running like 4-8 lbs of boost. But from reading other threads a turbo setup will not work with out a redesigned intake manifold.

there isn't one yet and there isn't one on the horizon. as edwin mentioned, the engine internals can't handle more than 4-8psi. and even the supercharger kits aren't exactly reliable at this point. some of the guys that were running the g-power kits have had blown engines, detonation, and other problems. ESS just released their kit, we'll see about reliability in the months to come. fact is, this m3 doesn't support forced induction very well and it's too early in it's life to have a broad array of options. this m3 was designed to be N/A and the rods/rod bearings were designed as such, too.

Not to mention, people are bending valves and some other problems from going over the stock red-line... and just guessing, piping for this car would be a nightmare.

A turbo kit is an entirely new ballgame over a supercharger kit.

The main reason is that with a supercharger the car will produce X boost at Y RPM (this is a static value as boost pressure is determined by pulley size in relation to crankshaft size), where as with turbos you have to do most of the tuning to account for the "onset" of boost.

I think turbo kits on this car are far out but not unrealistic for the future. I think that this engine will support low boost without any issues if the supercharger kit is properly designed.

The reason why the G-Power kits blew and had detonation is because of the tuning. I know that the timing in the G-Power kits was unsafely advanced. Usually with the introduction of boost you should retard timing a bit and add more fuel to keep the combustion temperatures down and to maintain a safe AFR. Adding fuel and reducing timing will take care of the detonating issues. The reason why the engine blew is obviously because of the frequent hits the motor was taking due to engine knock. Normally the damage is done at the higher RPM's.

It's possible to blow a motor on a stock car with a bad tune. It's hard, but possible. With the introduction of boost, the tuning must be much more concise. I don't think the G-Power mix ups should be representative of what happens when your put FI on an e9x M3. With a properly designed kit in terms of hardware, and tuning which is safe, I think that the S65 will put down great numbers safely and reliably.

But we will see - time tells all tales.

time shall tell, indeed. but from what i've seen so far, i don't get a very comforting feeling about boosting an S65. too high sprung. so since i can't, i'm just going to get a gt-r and run laps around any e92 m3.

True - to an extent.

People were very skeptical about FI on the E46 M3 with it's high compression ratio of 11.5:1. The results on the E46's were amazing - both turbos and superchargers (certain kits, of course).

The S65 Powerplant has a CR ratio of 12:1.

GT-R takes the cake anyway. I still wouldn't pay that much for a Nissan even though it is an engineering marvel.

You know Mike, when they were talking about that in another thread it did strike me as odd that they would advance timing on boost. In my previous cars we would almost severely retarded because it also would make my turbo go crazy. Oh well, m3 tt 6mt ... one day or a 911tt

see, you're letting the badge get in the way of your second thought...that it's an engineering marvel. just because it's a nissan doesn't mean it's not in the same company as f430's, gallardo's, and countless other exotics that are price-pointed far above a gt-r. fact is, performance wise, it is in that company.

regardless, i plan on buying a 2010 gt-r and sending it straight to the tuner for a turbo swap and tranny upgrades. reliable 900bhp for under $100k that corners like any premium exotic out of the box...you can't get that anywhere else and have creature comforts under $100k. that's my whole logic behind ditching the m3 for godzilla.

IMHO, the gt-r is a great deal for that amount of money, no matter what badge is on the front. it's not much more than a fully equipped m3 and offers oodles more power with better handling, braking, and all-around performance.

I don't understand the won't consider a GT-R b/c its a Nissan stuff (though I do call it a Datsun a lot). The only reason I don't like it is b/c its not available in 6MT, though this would probably be a negative for this car. Oh and I'm a die hard Porsche fan.

If the question is would I own a GT-R...f**k yeah!!! It would be a great DD, then have a GT3 for the track (in a perfect world of course).

^ Speaking of, I saw a black/orange/black 997 GT3RS at the corner of Westheimer and Kirby last night on the way to Nidda Thai. Pretty gnar.

nissan runs a dct tranny because any person can get in a gt-r and be just as good as any pro driver with a stick. bmw is doing the same thing. dual clutch boxes work really well, extremely responsive, and can do things a MT can't. i find a dct to be neither dull or boring, it's very fun in the right hands...any hands

I really admire the GT-R.

Some years down my future, I'd love to pick up something like it....While keeping the M3 as my daily driver.
