clutch noise when shifting back into neutral

Have about 400 miles on my 08 E90 M3 so far and loving it. I've read different threads regarding tranny noises, etc., but this one I'm curious if other 6MT owners have experienced and if it's normal (and why?).

Basically when coming to a stop, pushing in the clutch, shifting into N, and then when releasing/engaging the clutch I hear a funny noise - almost like small grinding where the clutch catchpoint/grabpoint is. But I'm in N!! This only happens in this circumstance, and I can't figure out what on earth it could be and if it's normal. I can be in 2nd or 3d or 1st and then clutch in, shift to N, clutch out - noise right when it grabs. Allways when coming to a stop - I don't shift into N at speeds!

What's up?

Yes I did search, but all the clutch noise issues talked about when *disengaging*/pressing in the clutch, NOT engaging or bring the pedal back up like I described. Point me to where you see a thread please.

It's normal. I think it's the duel mass clutch or something. The e46 m3 was the same thing. I think it sounds kind of cool .

I still don't see anyone saying this or why exactly when *engaging* the clutch. I see other posts regarding what you say above when *disengaging* and some rattling noises but this is different and in a different situation...Not good..

Sorry, but guess you can't read what I wrote mate! I'm saying when *ENGAGING*/RELEASING THE CLUTCH *****NOT***** when DISENGAGING/PRESSING THE CLUTCH IN, which is what ALL those posts I read are in regards to. I don't have the clunk. Can people read here

Also, this can be if I shift from 5 to N coming to a stop. It's something different..

Hi Mate,

I am a relatively new M3 owner myself (1.5months) and i did share the same concern about the clunking / funny noise you are experiencing. My previous 2006 Audi RS4 had the same problem and i was assured that it was the norm of Dual Clutch system.

Mr Harris kinda mentioned it too. Don't let the noise get to you and if anything pops up i am sure warranty will cover us.

It's normal. Do not worry, the explanation would take far too long and possibly put anyone that reads it to sleep. Enjoy going into neutral with a little noise.
