Finally bit the bullet and bought the StopTech 355mm kit (black calipers, slotted rotors). Pretty hard to beat Turner Motorsports' price with the 25% off AND the free Escort radar detector. I figured the black is also a good stealth look.

Thanks again for all of the great info, it's why I keep coming back!

Better pads, steel lines, SRF fluid and installing the Cantrell Motorsports Brake Duct Kit and stock rotors will probably get you 80% there of max stopping power. With the brake ducts and the Essex AP racing kit, you can really dive bomb the apexes (a great way to make up time vs faster cars), and the stopping power is unbelievable. Also saving 40 lbs of unsprung weight makes for a better handling car.

Rear pads are probably shot as well (CBS showing 2300 miles until change). I assume that something mild like a StopTech Street Performance pad will be sufficient? They're only about $80.

I would recommend the ST40 kit. The ST60 has larger pads but they don't last longer. You have a lot more pad choices with the ST40.

I'd look at the Stoptech Racing pads. I used the SR34s and they were every bit as good as the now discontinued but legendary PF01s.

I call bullsh1t on that. I've had stoptech BBKs on 3 different cars and know plenty of people who run stoptechs. I have never witnessed anyone complaining about pad knockback. The only place I've heard complaints is on the internet.

I run my pads down damned near to the rivets. Still never had a knockback issue.

IF knockback becomes a problem, I can just order some titanium shims when the pads are worn. I ain't even worried.

I don't think shims are going to help with knockback... do you have some reading material to share on that subject?

Might not happen to everyone, but does happen to some. A friend of mine who tracks an e46 m3 extensively had severe knockback issues with Stoptechs. He switched brakes because of it. Issue eliminated. I'm not saying to avoid Stoptechs because of it, but it is a possibility. Even if you get knockback, it can be managed. But, it is real.

Stoptechs are a good compromise for street and track. If it's track only, pay a little more and get the AP Racing kit and never look back

i'd say the ap's are good to go for the street and track. the only noises and crap i get out of the brakes nowadays is from my oem rears. fronts are happy as a clam on the street.
