Stock, with a non-carbon filter.

Your stock air box is a very efficient CAI, just buy yourself a good drop in filter(AFE,BMC,MS). Use that money towards another mod.

Stay stock and get an air filter (BMC or Macht Schnell). If you really want to do a mod, just drop in RPi air scoops or something.

+1

A new filter and maybe some scoops will do the job for you. Macht Schnell just released their scoops that we're now selling so you might want to take a look:

If you really want one, they're actually all about the same. I guess it just depends how much money you want to spend. I'm actually considering trying something different and am willing to sell you my Technocraft charge pipe if you're interested. Let me know.

By the way, is there any CAI or air filter for the M3 E9x by KNFilters? If no, do they plan to do any?

Have you seen the stock system?

There's not much room left for improvement, other than the Macht Schnell filters, which are a pre-oiled cotton gauze design and eliminate the restrictive charcoal filter.

There's been very good feedback on the MS filters from other M3 owners, we typically install quite a few a week in our shop.

I went with a simple BMC air filter.
