More performance figures

Just a few more details about the performance of the new M3. BMW published at the press conference a 0-1000km time of 23.3 seconds.

This compares with the latest M5 Touring which they quote 22.9 seconds for. The M5 Saloon is quoted at 22.7 seconds.

They also quote a 80-120 km/h figure in 4th gear of 4.9 seconds which compares with the 5.2 seconds they quote for the 335i.

The M3 CSL numbers were 23.5 and 5.0 seconds.

The E46 M3 numbers were 24.2 and 5.3 seconds.

You are very hard to please. 0-1000km in 23.3s is over 100 times the speed of sound

I am having trouble finding times for 0-1000 for competitors. But from what I can tell, the time is respectable. So far I have seen:

RS4: 24.0 and 23.7
360 Modena: 23.4
Vanquish 23.2
E55: 22.7
997 GT3: 22.9
McClaren F1: 19.6

Just scratching my head a little, here, but 0 to 1000 km ???

1000 km is 621.3 miles.

Did you mean 1000m , which is 1km ??

Thanks for the clarification.

I think this is why some are a little disappointed. The new m3 is marginally faster than the 335i. Yes I know the driving dynamics will be completely different but on paper (or html) it doesn't seem to be that far apart. I reserve my right to change my mind until I have driven it :-)

E92 M3 23.3s and 4.9s

335i xxxs and 5.2s

The M3 CSL 23.5 and 5.0 seconds.

The E46 M3 24.2 and 5.3 seconds.

Ferarri fast

I posted a link sometime ago to a mag cover article about the new M3 claiming/titled "Ferarri Fast". Folks here seemed to like the article but I got a lot of flak over at the "other" board saying "no way", "imprecise statement", "dream on", "it isn't a Ferarri", etc. Now the new M3 is beating the LEGENDARY Ferarri F360 0-1000m and we are still bitching. Unreal, wake up folks. Time to be very happy. Also it is "marginally" faster than the 335i, ugh...

Good God! Quit the complaining! The car hasnt even been released yet...we already no what it coming...An overpriced fat pig with great dynamics, and shitty brakes, unless they revise them before the release date.

Im frankly sick and tired of settling with the obesity that manufactuers are giving us...

I don't care for performance figures, that isn't what the M3 is about. I want the handling to be the best I know I could get for that price, stuff the performance, because it's nothing without fun.

The M5 has a huge SMGIII advantage over the M3, lets just wait till the new DSG/ZSG comes out and see the ///M3's real power. I'm sure many of you will be sorry for what you said about this beast.
