Naturally I would say RPi but since you want a more conservative exhaust maybe Remus sport? AE Performance? Akra?

Not really sure when it comes to quieter exhausts.

OEM performance exhaust... I had the Akra and it is REALLY nice but much deeper than stock and will echo off houses as you drive down the street

I like the Innotech rear section. Not cheap but sounds really awesome. (just the rear section is not raspy at all and you can switch closed the valves, and make it as quiet as stock)

Even open, just the Innotech rear is about the same loudness as an Akrapovic Slip on.

I recently installed the Active Autowerke Signature exhaust and I couldn't be happier with my choice. My neighbors don't complain and my girlfriend actually likes it too haha.

If you're looking for an OEM Plus sound that is slightly more aggressive, yet won't wake up the neighbors, I would recommend that you check out the REMUS Sport exhaust system for your M3. The Remus Exhaust System features a straight through muffler, reducing backpressure by an amazing 63%. Remus mufflers reduce exhaust weight by 10 lbs., while still showing an increase of 10 horsepower on the dyno. No need to worry about fitment; as Remus mufflers will fit your M3 PERFECTLY, and use same mounting points from BMW. All Remus Mufflers are constructed from 303 stainless steel to ensure your exhaust never rusts and lasts as long as your vehicle will.

Remember, Remus is the world's largest manufacturer of aftermarket automobile sport exhaust; I.S.O. 9001 and T.U.V. approved O.E.M. supplier to BMW, Mercedes, AMG, Porsche, Ducati, allowing them access to shared CAD files for fully automated quick and accurate fitment. As well, back pressure calculations and sound testing in a highly sophisticated audio dyno room. Our dyno results as an O.E.M. supplier must be accurate. Dyno results are 'bolt on' only, with no complimentary modifications. Here's a comparison video of both the REMUS Sport and Race versions for you to check out!

All our Exhaust systems for the E9X M3's are bolt on kits. No Cutting, welding or fabricating involved. We are also having a great summer special on our systems.

Does your sport system have anti-resonance (Helmholtz) chambers? Thx.

Neither system has Helmholtz chambers. They are straight through mufflers.

So, should one expect drone without the helmholtz chambers (some more than others)?

Is the drone a trade off for better sound or louder sound?

Why would one not want helmholtz (or when is helmholtz consider irrelevant)?

They help but it's not the only way to get rid of drone. The Corsa doesn't drone in the slightest and it uses reflective tuning, rather than helmholtz resonators.

The Innotech doesn't have them either and doesn't drone at all. (although I'm not quite sure how they do this.)
