Few questions about powdercoating...

Alright everyone, did a quick search and found some good info, but wanted to try to get a couple of other questions answered.

I'm looking to get my ZCP wheels powdercoated. I am thinking a non-glossy black to try to match the GTS rims.

First, I got a quote from a guy near VA Beach telling me he could do it for $133 per wheel. Based on some of the recommended prices I found here doing a search, this seems too high. Not only that, but he also mentioned that we'd need new valve stems, possibly new TPMS, and they would also charge to take the tires off the wheels if I didn't do so before hand. I'm looking at probably a crazy amount of money for this, and IMO he is ripping me off. What do you think?

Also, he mentioned that the ///M logo might not be able to be saved if it can't be removed prior to the powdercoating. I know the roundels can be removed, but can the ///M logo next to them be removed as well? I haven't tried or even looked, the car is put away right now waiting for a time when I can get it detailed.

I am thinking I will do more shopping around, but it is difficult to find something reputable in mid-VA (Richmond). It seems I always have to either go all the way up to NoVA, DC or all the way down to VA Beach.

Thanks!

Mine was $110 per wheel. $95 for installation. $50 for loaners. Everything on the wheel (TPMS, emblems, etc.) was taken off and put back on when it was done.

I think you should shop around and go out of your way to find a good shop to do them. Make sure you check out their work and their history. You don't want your wheels to break while driving due to over baking, etc.

PS. You might get more hits if this was in the tire/wheel section.

It sounds like you are paying alot of unnecessary extras here like new TPMS and valve stems. They can re-use all of that including the badge. However the price for $133 to powdercoat is not bad. I paid over $200 each for mine, but it was a cold strip + low temp powdercoat.

$133 is not bad at all... You should ask if that includes dismounting and remounting tires, etc. If so...it's a good price!

I got quotes locally that ranged from 600 to 800 for the set of 4, but I'm in NY.

It doesn't include anything, $133 per wheel is the price if I bring the rims alone with everything already removed.

Yes, even for that $133 with everything removed, its a good price.
Good powdercoating is not cheap at all. Sure you can find some place that will even do it for $80 per wheel but I shopped around and decided I wanted it done right and paid around $200 per wheel not including dismounting/mounting, etc.

OK thanks. I'll have to wait and see. I might bring him the car and show him what he's working with. The guy usually does motorcycle work, not cars, but he said he'd do it for me for a good price since I'm active duty military.
