I want to know how accurate the gps sensor in the car is? 1hz, 5hz? If it is less then 5hz the laptimer portion is useless.

Oh, yes, that's right. M Laptimer has about thirty recordings of my street.*

What's New in Version 1.1 (posted Oct 10, 2013)
New preinstalled recordings created by professionals at the BMW Performance Driving School in Spartanburg, SC.

Updates for iOS 7

So, no big reason to rush home and update.

In the meantime, I've connected it to the "Apps" section of iTunes and it shows up as one of the apps for which a file could be, presumably, transferred to the computer. But none of the files/sessions appear on the list. Future functionality, perhaps?

  1. Connect to iTunes.
  2. Click on the Apps tab for your iPhone
  3. At the bottom you will see the App in the file sharing section
  4. Open the app on the phone
  5. Go to iTunes Sharing
  6. Click Upload

You will then see the files in iTunes in the "Laptimer Documents" section.

i dont think its accurate

i have full bolt ons and launch controlled today. i got perfect traction and the surface was somewhat down hill, and it told me 4.2 seconds...

no way to verify that obviously however it seems a bit slow for my mods and the traction i got with launch control

FWIW i timed it myself based on a video i took and i got 3.7 seconds whereas like i said, the app said 4.2

i just bought racelogic's gps device so when it arrives, i'll time my 0-60 on that so i can develop some sense of how inaccurate BMW's app is. pretty disappointed with it to be honest.

I suggest you do a few run to allow the interface to communicate properly. My fuel consumption was all over the place in the first few runs, but it returned to normal. Don't panic, and even if it's 0km there is nothing you can do about it. Is it possible to see the speed on the instrument cluster "V=68 etc" May be if you cannot see this, enabling it might fix it. This is just a thought but no way a solution. I take Patryk installed the system for you, so may be send him an email to get this feature enabled. Good luck and let us know whether it worked.

I will be running the M Laptimer side by side against my AiM Solo DL this weekend at Buttonwillow. We shall see if this is a tool or a toy. I read somewhere that the GPS update rate for the iPhone is only 1HZ vs 10HZ for my Solo which will skew the GPS accuracy. I have already noticed that the Map plotting on the app is sloppy playing around town. Hopefully a closed circuit will merit better results.

My understanding is the app isn't using the GPS signal from your phone, but from the car. I asked the BMW guys who were displaying the M4 Concept at Ofest about the app back in August and they said the car's signal is better than the phone, so I'm hoping it will be more accurate than Harry's Lap Timer. I also noticed that the draw rate on screen while driving was delayed, so not sure how accurate it's going to be.

Good to know. I experienced the same initial latency at the beginning of the render as well. It shouldn't be problem on the track since the first lap is a warm-up anyhow and will be tossed aside.

Awesome. I have been waiting for someone to test it out. If it used the iPhone sensor it would be junk but we might have hope if it uses the cars sensor.
