The rims are made from Carbon Kevlar. Unlike Carbon Fiber they do not shatter like CF.

Man, what would those rims cost, $12,000 each?

Good to know, that was something I was worried about. Imagine it shattering at speed...

Anyway, what happens with the carbon kevlar if the tolerance is exceeeded?

I've always thought that CF wheels were the wave of the future, but there is something not right about them. If they were as awesome as everyone says, they would be standard fare in racing. However, nobody uses them.

I don't think it is due to them being fragile either. Magnesium wheels are fragile; so fragile in fact, that they are throw aways after a certain number of hours. Yet they are used everywhere in racing.

No, I suspect it is because the CF wheels are not stiff enough and consequently flex too much. Can anyone confirm this?

At $8k per set, if they functioned properly and had more than a limited lifespan, they would be well worth the money.

I had a set of mags for the e46 that knocked off 10 lbs a corner. They were totally worth it.

I would be very nervous about curbing those! As far as stiffness, I'm almost certain CK could be made just as stiff as metal.

I was curious about the price etc
So couple of months ago i emailed the people at dynamag
This was the answer

Wheel Retail Retail
Size Price Price
(£) ($)
18" x 8" 1125 2138
18" x 8.5" 1135 2157
18" x 9" 1145 2176
18" x 10" 1165 2214
18" x 11" 1185 2252
18" x 13" 1225 2328
19" x 9" 1185 2252
19" x 9.5" 1195 2271
19" x 10 1205 2290
19" x 11" 1225 2328
19" x 12" 1245 2366
20" x 8.5" 1215 2309
20" x 9.5" 1235 2347
20" x 11" 1265 2404
20" x 12" 1285 2442
20" x 12.5" 1295 2461
22" x 10" 1325 2518

Prices are based on pounds on a 1.90 $ = 1 pound

I saw pictures about wrecked exotics with these wheels shattered but i don't know if they broke because of the accident or if the wheels actually caused them.
