The rims are made from Carbon Kevlar. Unlike Carbon Fiber they do not shatter like CF.

Man, what would those rims cost, $12,000 each?

I've always thought that CF wheels were the wave of the future, but there is something not right about them. If they were as awesome as everyone says, they would be standard fare in racing. However, nobody uses them.
I don't think it is due to them being fragile either. Magnesium wheels are fragile; so fragile in fact, that they are throw aways after a certain number of hours. Yet they are used everywhere in racing. No, I suspect it is because the CF wheels are not stiff enough and consequently flex too much. Can anyone confirm this? At $8k per set, if they functioned properly and had more than a limited lifespan, they would be well worth the money. I had a set of mags for the e46 that knocked off 10 lbs a corner. They were totally worth it. |

Carbon Kevlar wheels
I would be very nervous about curbing those! As far as stiffness, I'm almost certain CK could be made just as stiff as metal.
