New M3, Kindneys and Gills

Hey All,

The new car got here about 3 weeks ago. Pics below. Considering either doing black grills and gills, or the CF trimmed ones. Has anyone put he CF ones on, and if so, what is your opinion?

Thanks

Any chance you could post a photo or two? Also, are those OEM or from an aftermarket company?

I have SG also and was convinced that I was going to go with Black Grills and Gills. After getting the car, however, I actually like how the standard chrome goes with this color.

Here's how I would do the grills/gills based on the standard colors:

Alpine White-----------gloss black
Interlagos Blue--------color matched
LeMans Blue-----------color matched
Jerez Black------------color matched
Jet Black---------------color matched/gloss black
Melbourne Red--------color matched
Silverstone II----------black chrome
Space Gray------------standard chrome/black chrome
Sparkling Graphite----standard chrome/ black chrome

VVG,

I agree, the chrome doesn't look bad, it just doesn't really match anything else on the car, so to me, it looks a little out of place I guess. I'm kind of sitting on it and thinking for a while before I do anything, which is why I was looking for some input from others who have done it.

I'm also thinking about the OEM CF splitters on the front and thinking that in combination with the CF style kidneys, it just may be way too much CF.

To be honest, I like the chrome better on that color vehicle. I think the black grill and gill only looks good on black cars (and sometimes white). And I like gloss black way better than the CF.

I am also torn between putting them on my car. I usually like all black everything and no chrome, but for some reason I like the chrome on the M.

That's just my opinion, either way, the car will look great. It's a pretty subtle difference in the end. Post pics when you decide!

I was on the same boat. When I just got my M, I was debating on whether black it out or stick with the oem chrome look. Later I decided to give it a try, and here is the result.

Thanks for all the input and pictures. I always agonize over crap like this. The one thing I am going to do rather quickly is replace the orange bumper reflectors. I'll likely go with the clear reflectors for that.

I assume the "edition" pieces are the OEM parts, correct?

I'm a big fan of OEM for almost anything, so I likely will.

I went with matte black grills for my alpine white and it made the car look much more aggressive. IMHO the chrome or color-matched are a definite no

Actually, it does match a few things. Don't forget that there is a fair bit of chrome in the headlights, and the rear M3 badges and tailpipes are also chrome. So...there are small touches of chrome. You could also argue that if you changed the grills, and gills, you need to change your headlight internals also.

Hmmmm....Interesting points indeed. Maybe I just need to go to the garage and stare at the car for a bit.

I would get matte black grills vs carbon fiber unless you are planning on adding other carbon fiber features to the vehicle. The matte black does make the car look more aggressive IMO. Good luck with the decision!
